no.

the reason it's no, first, medical records are private unless your a medical
professional professional treating the patient or an insurance company
covering  a potential client. the records can only be released with consent
from the person who's records you want meaning you'd need the names. second.
you cant really ask for general records of people that could have been your
parents because you wouldnt know they were unless you knew their names

you can have genetic testing done to determine if you're predisposed to
cancer, other disease or illness and even baldness. this shit's costly

I used to think the same mate. I always told myself if I ever saw my mother id literally kill her.

But, years of question made that change. And tbh I couldnt be happier with the situation. Made contact and very glad I did. The answer to making it work is to have no expectations and not to judge. Things generally happen for a reason.

If you want to talk about it privately feel free to PM me.

speak to your foster parents, they should have the information on who your bioligical parents are. also, i may be wrong, but i'm fairly sure the adoption agencies keep records of whos baby went to who, so they could possibly put you in contact with who gave birth to you and who fostered you.

its the sort of thing where your going to have to do a bit of digging, kind of like geneology. even if you go back to your birth certificate, find the hospital and see if they've kept records or something.

i'm almost certain there is a way though.

It's actually a pretty big debate right now in the adoption services community about how much agencies should be allowed / forced to tell people who were adopted in closed adoptions. Try getting in touch with the agency who handled yours and see what they say.

Ed.: Like pris said they can't release medical records but depending on the terms of the adoption they may be able to act as a go between so you can get some answers from your birth parents.

There are a lot of formalities but yes, it can be done, depending where you live.

If you're that adamant, get a lawyer to help facilitate the process.

You may end up regretting it for a variety of reasons. In the few cases of I've heard of from friends, it's either been related to major medical concerns or psychological understanding of the self etc

It depends on what state you were adopted in. I had the option, through the adoption agency of:

1) receiving non-identifying information - which is a report that let me know my mother's height, weight, hair color, eyes, religion, job experience, education, etc. It also gave some information on other relatives. My report was 2-1/2 pages long.

2) receiving medical information - the agency contacts your mother and/or father and asks them to update a medical questionnaire. They return it to the agency who forwards it to you.

3) asking to have contact with parents

I got my non-ID through the agency and then searched on my own. Some states allow you to get your real birth certificate.

Like Chaos05, I'm glad I did. I have a very good relationship with both my mother and father. Reasons given, from agencies, for relinquishment are usually a lie. Adoption is a multi-billion dollar BUSINESS - agencies don't want people to know the truth behind it all. I say this from years and years of experience in the adoption community.

PM me if you want to know more - I can point you in the right direction and help you figure out the laws in your state.

All U.S. citizens should have the right to their original birth certificates!!!

ancestry.com isn't going to provide much without a name and even then it's not going to list medical information

i'm adopted. i've met both my birth parents.  and some half siblings.  and aunts, uncles, cousins, even a grandpa and a grandma.

i don't regret any of it but it's played a large part in shaping my character.  my twin sister on the other hand has seen it all a little differently.

:pm: if you wanna chat or anything

i'm glad i wasn't aborted :heartpump:

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. People always have the option of making their adoption an open one. It may be true that adoptive parents prefer closed adoptions but there's always the option of making it closed until the child becomes an adult and letting them choose what to do then.

No, there isn't. I wasn't allowed to choose what I wanted to do - that's why I circumvented the agency.

And yes, most adoptive parents want closed adoptions. I heard more accounts than I can mention from birthmothers who were promised open or semi-open adoptions only to have it slammed in their face once the adoption was finalized.

These are not just a few instances. I run a support forum for adoptees and am on the board for an organization that deals with state legislators to try to get laws changed so that adult adoptees can get their birth certificates.

Did you know if your amended birth certificate was issues a year after your adoption that you can't get a passport?

My adoptive parents were lied to by the agency about the reason for my relinquishment and my biological mother was lied to about who was adopting me.

I was told the agency that adopted me out was burned to the ground. Imagine my surprise when a private investigator found them for me. This, along with records being destroyed in a flood are common lies.

Or how about my friend who searched and found, and her mother went into shock because when she gave birth at the unwed mothers home the nuns told her that her baby had died. That's a hell of a ghost from the past.

I could go on and on but I have no need to. It's a business that makes a lot of money finding babies for people who can't have them. Agencies have lobbyist to keep records closed for a reason. They are big business just like any other corporation - except they deal in humans.

Just because /your/ adoption was closed doesn't mean /all/ adoptions are closed is what I'm saying.

That's not a valid contract then - I realize not everyone can read legalize and most people in this situation can't afford a lawyer but you can't consent to a contract if you're misled about its contents. It may be difficult to prove they're misleading people, but if they're doing that they're depending on people not knowing their rights.

And apparently the ones who deal with racists are pretty shady - it's usually much easier to adopt Asian and African orphans.
