one of my favorite things and activities to partake in, i think its absolutely awesome, it is called Permaculture... imagine creating a forest of food that sustainable that manages itself and can provide for thousands of years while improving the soil, imagine being able to turn deserts into a forest of food, imagine being able to supply almost all of your needs from a garden, imagine living a life in harmony with nature in which you are a healer and plainer and steward of the earth, imagine yourself as a powerful creator, now stop imagining and do, if it resonates with you(if you wish and feel like you want to :smile:...

Welcome to Permaculture i thought id share some nice vids that showcase this awesome design system in harmony with nature that when applied correctly has the power to turn the desert into a forest of food, sustainably forever(over thousands of years anyways) lol sounds nice right :smile: creating an sustainable living environment that is way less stressful aaaahh...

Wow this really is fantastic, me and my girlfriend had been wanting to start a communal farm for some time and after seeing this video I'm going to research this into depth to be able to employ the same technologies where we plan on living. Thank you for sharing this with me, maybe we can get the whole world to catch on to this idea

I've also seen great videos of permaculture in S.A.  They embraced the practice in a effort to heal poverty and fend off starvation. Forests of food basically.... I'll try to dig them up I haven't seen them since my AG class a few years back.

Many years ago, I spent a summer up at Ananda in the Sierra Nevada foothills of California. The native soil was almost pure red clay. There were pine tress, grass and scrub brush. Almost impossible to grow veggies.

Every year they would make several huge compost heaps out of straw and organic waste and a commerical bacteria starter. They needed to be turned several times and would take almost a year to break down. In the spring they were mixed into the local soil to make a garden. And every year the topsoil got deeper and the garden got larger until they were eventually supporting a community of several hundred.

Artichokes, eggplant, peas, beans, raspberries, strawberries, lettuce, cabbage, carrots and so on.

Very cool stuff.
