Plant products with "otherworldly" or "dark" fragrances?
    #2066998 - 11/03/03 03:46 AM (13 years, 2 months ago)

I'm thinking about making some morose hair care products for people who don't want happy shiny hair care products. What are some plants/flowers that have an otherworldly but pleasant but slightly evil smell?

I believe you will want a lower note fragrance - something that has a deep earth, musty and rooty scent. Those can easily be extracted with a crockpot or pressure cooker from various woods and other organic material. Low notes would be cedarwood, clove, frankincense, ginger, jasmine, rose, nutmeg, heather, cinnamon, sandalwood, or some sort of evil combination of these.

If you need help with fragrances, I am quite big into making fragrances as its one of my hobbies and could help you out - just ask

It would be nice if it were cost effective, and could be bought in quantity, possibly in the form of essential oils.

There will basically be two organic components; stuff that makes it smell the way I want it to smell, and stuff that just has a dark image. Some will be both possibly, like Datura flower essence possibly.

I'd definitely want some hemlock, or some kind of "bane" mostly just for the name/image.

I'd also like to do a psychedelic plant line of products containing San Pedro and HBWR/Morning Glory, maybe an Ayahuasca based conditioner or something. If it contained trace amounts of controlled substances that would be fine (possibly ideal) but I really wouldn't want people trying to get off on it. I defininitely wouldn't want it to be a practical thing to do.

Mmmmm... Absinthe glycerine soap.

Heeeeeeee.

Novel idea, but is it practical/legal?

I don't think there are laws about how one smells? I could be wrong but as long as no laws are being broken during production then game on!

BH, what kind of people do you have in mind? I have visions of Goths walking around stinking of eau de datura

Yeah, basically. Goths, pagans, people into shamanism/ritual magic type stuff.

Anybody that would be interested in washing their hair with mescaline.

I definitely don't want to use anything that could be dangerous, at least not just from skin contact.

I'd trade ya for some.  How about Psychotria Shampoo .  I love the smell of Psychotria Viridis, and thats pretty cheap.

Does P. Viridis have a strong smell? It would have to. It costs like $35 for 4 ounces. Not very cheap, unless you know someplace cheaper.

datura strammonium var. tatula flowers fragrance (perhaps other daturas too), its like an evil gardenia/jasmine smell with a little of a virola like (myristicaceous) smell... very attractive smell.
the chicks will all surround you, sniffing on your hair.
(it's the datura's unbeatable evil attraction).
