Dude I had never even heard of Donnie Brasco until I saw it on netflix about a year ago. Fucking amazing, its pretty much tied with Goodfellas and yet nobody ever talks about it


yeah dude. donnie brasco is a bit of an obscure movie. i kind of just stumbled onto it as well, not realising how epic was. it doesn't really make sense that it's an obscure movie as well, given that it has al pacino, and johnny depp casted in it! one would think that would be a smash hit film. but its such a good movie.



another good one is The Departed with leonardo dicaprio and jack nicholson.

Deniro came out on top in Casino, so good on him.

I think Id rather be in the position Deniro has in Casino...a front man.


He almost gets blown up and ends up exactly where he started in the movie. He says so in the voice over narration. He didn't end up on top.

Yup. I mean yeah, Gotti was a stone cold boss, but in all honestly he was an idiot. He craved attention. He loved seeing himself on the news and seeing his name in the papers. How the fuck can you successfully run an organized crime outfit when your pictures are being broadcast on the six o'clock news every fucking night?

I read somewhere where mafia godfathers back in Italy thought of him as a complete fucking idiot. One would think that the most successful and highest regarded mob bosses would be the ones that fly under the radar and are well out of public view. Gotti wanted to be a celebrity.

I had it in my queue for a long time because I figured, if this movie has pacino and depp and I havn't heard of it its probably because its a piece of crap. I don't get why its obscure either. The Departed only half counts as a gangster film, Id consider it closer to a cop movie. But it is amazing

You know what's an extremely underrated gangster film? Belly. It is so incredibly atmospheric. People automatically assume that because DMX and Nas starred in it, that it's a black ghetto Master P type movie with a 25K budget. They'd be sadly mistaken.

Gang tapes

It's so ghetto it comes in VHS, when you start watching it you'll just be in a daze, probably the best west coast gangster film that doesnt border on comedy itself, it's a straight up bootleg movie.  I got it at the library cuz they like to fill up the shelves with anti-gang shit.

It's like the Neverending story of gangster movies.

yea the movie Push has some pretty good lines in it, micheal rapporot is in it the comedian and hes a great guy and actor.

I never saw Belly 2. It looked horrific. Shame they tainted the original with that shit. But at least Hype Williams did the right thing by turning it down.
