Ways to prevent mushrooms from growing under chicken wire?
    #1635151 - 06/15/03 03:36 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

My cakes fruit like crazy, but more than 1/2 the time they start by growing downward, underneath the chicken wire on the bottom of my terranium. As a result, I've had to raise the "floor" of my terranium but 2 inches, and now cannot use a two tier setup. Is there anyway to prevent this?

put something like a jar lid under the cake, so when they grow downward, they will hit the barrier and change direction, or at least wont go any further downwards,
you can probably use a paper plate or a peice of clean plastic or something similar, i dont think u should use cardboard cuz i think it might harbor contams

To make the shrooms grow upwards, make sure light only enters the terrarium from above, not through the sides. This will prevent downward growth.

Light can only come in through the top of my terranium. Yeti, I thought that maybe putting something, like a jar lid, underneath the cake would stunt the growth of the mushroom instead of making it change directions?

I will definitely try it after harvesting time, because I have caps touching the moist bottom of the terranium.
