History of the shroomery

I've been a member of the shroomery for about 3 months so I know little about its history.. there must be some interesting stories behind these pages? I remember reading about someone dying live on a webcam.. is that true? Who started the shroomery? when? where? ah so many questions.

If anyone has any facts about the shroomery, or any old favourite threads, I'd love to read about them here. thanks!

The shroomery fruited out of the mycellia of the Internet back in the old days. Then people started to register. Spores were spread. Stories were told. It was good fun had by all.

Ripper died of a massive overdose on a webcam chatting in shroomery IRC channel. His name was brandon verdas I think.

It was a very bad time for the Shroomery and all the Admins and Mods! Thor was deeply affected by it and resigned as Administrator shortly after it happened.

Not to my knowledge, there was a lot of concern about negative publicity to the Shroomery and some actions were taken such as suspending new membership and hiding some of the forums from public view. The Shroomery was never named in any publication as far as I know.

it was mentioned in one publication for certain, I found the article from the website devoted to that kid who killed himself. I don't feel like searching for it again but they didn't mention the actual address of the shroomery (which is not very hard to figure out anyway), just said that members of The Shroomery egged him on.

Thing is, you can't condone what they said to him, but I get the impression he wanted to do it anyway.. Reading those logs, I never got the impression that they actually did want him to do that much. But the media latches onto it and suddenly its their fault that he did it. I don't buy it.
