U would need to use saw dust. There is probably a way to do it.

Ganoderma lucidum (reishi) is not an easy shroom to 'play' with it. However, cultivation is possible. You can either:
(a) buy a bag from SPOREWORKS (b) read the article from MushWorld that i had quoted in this forum just today.
GOOD LUCK with your efforts.

Reishi is not hard at all to grow and its very adaptable to different woods - it just takes time
You need to find a nice clean mycoculture or make one from a dried specimen then transfer it to PF or grain then to a bag of sawdust. Sometimes it sits around, most times it takes off! colonisation is pretty quick
Then you let colonised bags sit for a month or so before you expose to light and pierce the bags The resihi primordia will form near cut sites and slowly develop This is a slow growing mushroom but it doesn need a lot of water and you can dunk the bags if it stalls
Easiest way i found as to make bags like this then bury outside under a shallow layer of soil and wait for the fruits to come up Or innoculate logs and do the same Ill have to post a pic of a 'wild' reishi from logs i forgot id buried

How can you make a culture from a dried specimen? And is it very easy to make a spore print of reishi? I can't bring in live cultures in the mail but I am really wanting a spore print of reishi, so if anyone has one please PM me!

well left my webcam at a friends so heres the next best thing...
heres a GL i saw in The monkey forest in Ubud, Bali indonesia

and heres some of my specimens at home

the little one in the front is off the bag (next pic) the big buggers either side behind are Gandoderma australe off Acacia and Eucalyptus
and the middle back one is the one from the log outside - its a cluster of 3 or 4 shrooms - when i get my cam ill do a better pic

heres a reishi grown on enriched paper pellets in an oven bag - using the instructions i gave above
to get a culture go to chinatown and bu a shroom - take it home and split it open , remve some pores and transfer to a sterile water solution - it will resprout and you can tease it out and start subculturing it on agar - or just buy a kit from a supplier and clone it

Yeah, reishi grows two ways, from what I know of it: either like a shelf fungus...or like that, in a weird elongated form.

The antler form is often due to high CO2 levels. The shelf form is what forms when CO2 levels are lower.
