Easter Island heads (moai) have bodies!

I don't think anyone has posted this yet, and I thought it was interesting enough to share.. My buddy linked me to this site http://www.eisp.org/ and apparently the moai on Easter Island have huge bodies submerged beneath the ground! pretty chill.. :super:

the bodies have been known about for many years, I believe the speculation is
that they were sinking, based on a few of the pictures it appears they are

I don't have any facts, but I thought that I heard that the island people became obsessed with the building of these artifacts and competition between tribes became intense. Eventually they became so focused on them that they ran out of resources and people starved. I'm too lazy to google that, so as far as I know it's a fable.

so then my next question is how did the inhabitants think that they got there? There had to be at least one person eating some wild berries and tripping face that tried to tell everyone what the story was I'm guessing.

The ones that are buried are thought of unfinished projects as these people used to carve them and then move them to these standing spots. I guess with time they just grew bored with that tradition after they met people from outside the island.

Btw, I remember reading that Easter island has the biggest distance towards land of any sort. I remember being there standing at the top of one of the two volcanoes there. The island is pretty small, from there you could see all borders of it and a horizon of water in any direction you looked.

We smoked a joint up there with a few friends and it was mind blowing

they held a festival on this island a couple years ago




not a lot of people went because it was so expensive. there was an eclipse directly over the island on the second day
