My first huntng find..medicinal i think
    #1590746 -

hi this is totally my first post in the hunting forum......I live in India which is geographically and climaticaly a very different place that most of you are used to.....much research hasyet to be done on the Mushrooms that grow here.

This is the pic of my first find.....my "google guess ".... Ganoderma Oregonenese ..What say....
:ooo:

same tree...

Hope you guys like my finds.... that Ist pic one was at least 3 feet wide!!

And...I dunno what this is....From a different tree Far Away from the top pics tree

The above mushroom felt a lttle cold to the touch at the white end.....So thats what confuses me....it was a little small and just the omnly one on the tree( which was quite huge and alive!!)

I'm no expert on shelf fungus, but they do look like Reishi to me.

The fact that you live in India means that our identifications are not going to be nearly as accurate as they would be if you were in North America. So you should be more cautious about considering eating anything we identify.

The first two look like Ganodermas. Based on the bark of the tree I'd guess it was not a pine, in which case I'd guess Ganoderma lucidum (which I know grows in India). According to Arora, Ganoderma oregonense only occurs in western North America on conifers. Of course, it could be a Ganoderma we don't have here at all, so it wouldn't be in any of my books.

The third one, if it were in North America, I would guess is Fomitopsis pinicola.

Interesting polypores and nice photos.

Happy mushrooming!

Thanks all....As the mushrooms that grow here are not known by the local population I am hoping that i will discover something new to show you guys......

The 'monsoons' ie. six months of rain rain and more rain....tropical style are just about to begin in the next two weeks so as soon as the first showers occur i should be out there clicking furiously for your veiwing pleasure...there are plenty of forests and deep thick jungles around where I stay and i have always been looking for a reason to go inside them......now i have one..........

There is a good chance that i discover a new species altogether.....!!

Where are you in India?

I ask because all local populations know edible shroom species. They also are known to collect mushrooms to make dyes used in their clothings.

And in India there are many books on mushrooms of the country available at book stalls and stores.

Here is a list of some Indian Shroom literature regarding psychedelic shrooms.

I also once edited a Hindi Students Thesis on growing Plerotus shrooms fro food source using Paul Stamets book. He built his shroom grow room with bamboo and reed and palm fronds.

Mj. This is just a little.

In Tamil Nadu in the Western Ghat Mountains, tourists refer to this region as mushroom city. There the native peoples know the magic shrooms and the edible species and those used for dyes and other crafts.

Most throughout the country are aware of many mushrooms.
