Yup. That's my big hangups with plasmas. Burnout is a definite issue with them. The life just isn't as long as it is with LED or LCD. Downside of LDC is the cathodes that light the thing get dimmer over time and take a longer time to warm up (LED is pretty much instant). LED is the only way I would go with a new TV.

LCD's aren't so bad as long as they have quality cathode tubes in them, they're just bigger and heavier. Still gotta say though, LEDs win for how thin they are and their contrast ratios. Plasmas are tend to be crazy expensive to repair.

BTW Wakeboardr, tell your neighbor that most surge protectors have some kind of guarantee. He might be able to get some money from the company that made the thing. Especially if it was Belkin or something like that.
