I wanna play banjo!!

I really wanna learn to play, I already play guitar, just like every other male in the country but I wanna expand.

How hard would it be to pick up? I know its very different from guitar but i mean they look similar enough and I tend to learn fast.

How much do you think a decent/but cheap banjo would cost me?

I play guitar and want to play a banjo too. My buddy has one and its not too hard to play. Just a little bit different. A cheap one should be around 100 bucks on musiciansfriend.

if you are good at gingerpicking, you'll be a natural. I play guitar/banjo and basically it's tuned like the bottom 4 strings og the guitar, in double drop-d. So if you wanted f you would play

and then the top string is e, unless you use the built in capo, then it's g

I play a 4 stringed banjo that's tuned in fifths (7 semitones) like a mandolin. I don't know much about 5-string banjos except that people tune them to different open chords for different tunes. There are also 6 string "cheater" banjos for guitar players.

Banjo wouldn't be hard to pick up with some experience playing the guitar. There are alot of different tunings that are used and most of them are open tunings meaning that if you don't fret any strings and strum the strings, it will sound a chord. With these tunings it makes the left hand less demanding than guitar because alot of the fretting will be single string and partial chords.The right hand techniques will require more patience until those right hand patterns become muscle memory.

A good, cheap banjo won't cost more than 200 bucks.  Make sure to look for one that has a geared 5th string tuning peg. Deering Good Time banjos would be my recommendation.

I have always loved the banjo and its magical bluegrass sound! Mmmmm that's good stuff! I just have no musical rhythm sadly. Nut I still gotta have that southern sound now and then.

been meaning to buy a banjo for ahwile. So i saw this thread this morning, lurking as usual, and while i was out i said fuck it, i'm swinging by the music store.

picked up a new fender banjo for 300 (cheapest one they had).  they were upwards of $700. It came with the case, strap, extra strings, picks, a book, and tuner
