want a cheap food dehydrator? go to wal mart!

i just bought a food dehydrator today at walmart, the total including tax was 42 bucks. it has adjustable heating (if you wanna use heat....) and comes with 4 trays, and can use up to 12 (which seems it would be great for mass qty i guess). it works fuckin great, i put shrooms in there at about 12 noon, its now 12 midnight and they are almost completely dry already. its called "American Harvest" made by "NESCO". read about it in a post and decided to go buy it (sorry i forget the guys name who posted it) , its cheap, it works well, ANNNNND you could use the flavor packets that come with it to make shroom jerkey.... well maybe not lol.

I use the same model, and strongly suggest it as an appropriate dehydrator for just about anything.

joshua, did you remove your heater or set it at 95 degrees? i havent removed mine since i figured 95 wouldnt do TOO much damage to the chemicals and i was in a rush to dry. if you took yours out, i was just wondering if you could please run me through the process of removing it. if you set it at 95 do you notice any potency loss? i pm'ed you if thats ok... sorry if it wasnt.

That's fine to set at 95 F. If you need extra height, flip a tray over and lock the inner holes together. That is also a way to keep things cooler for lower temp drying.

Do not dry at high heat.

I tried it and the results were not good. You get wonderful crispy shrooms, but all the flavor is gone.

good to know thx for the info....I was just thinking about getting a dehydrator....so 95 won't result in any potency loss josh? would be nice not too have too remove anything

I went shopping for a dehydrator not too long ago, and found a dehydrator at Lowe's for only $32 I think. I had to take it apart and disconnect the heater core. Works great. I was really surprised that Lowe's actually had something cheaper than Wal-Mart.
