FM(frequency modulation)
    #15726103 -

FM(frequency modulation) is quite a trippy concept in the world of audio. Where with subtractive (2 signals mixed together equating a totality ) FM uses 1 signal to modulate (to vary properties of) the second signal, equating to a smooshed, twangled, waveform. It's like visually hallucinating 2 objects merging together and animating as one

it's kinda weird, i guess? if you're talking about how modulation works, i guess, it is pretty cool.

  Feedback FM is really weird, but cool.  Oscillators oscillating themself.. :Awemazing:

I'm going to be a nitpicky bastard and point out that subtractive synthesis has more to do with shaping the sound with filters and such though.

On a side note.. check out this synth that I get to use now.

I can see it.  there are many ways to generate an oscillation, we have been doing it at least as early as the 1930s.

It is like a living organism, complicating itself building from the center out.  All different ways of altering the original signal.

It's fun, magical stuff.

I'm studying at a university.  You should see our Protools rigs :homerdrool:  I'm going to miss those studios.  The Surge behind the Arp in the pic above is pretty cool too although less impressive.
