John Frusciante
    #15610412 -

Don't know how many chili peppers fans we've got on the shroomery, but their lead guitarest for the majority of their time spent together is named john frusciante and he has put out a whole bunch of solo albums that are really good.

'to record only water for 10 days' is a good one, as is 'the empyrean'. like anthony kiedis, the lead singer, john's music was recorded under the influence heroin, at least a lot of it. all in all i think if your interested in great artists and artists who created while on drugs you might find john frusciante a great find:mushroom2:

John got clean in 1998 or so...so it's just the albums like Niandra Lades and Just a T shirt that he was actually under the influence of a LOT of drugs. He quit the chilli peps in 1992 after blood sugar sex magik...became isolated and got very strung out....then returned in 1999 for the Californication album. He quit again in 2010. But anyways he an amazing person and artist...my favorite solo artist and favorite guitarist by far. He made the chili peps to me. Amazing harmonies also. Love all his solo albums. Everybody should check them out.

John Frusciante is my favorite guitar player ever, I've spent hours upon hours of just listening to live RHCP to hear his solos, which are most of the time incredible. I love how he can play maybe 3 notes over a twelve bar solo but they're the best 3 notes for the time, 4 notes would be too many. He also uses very interesting chord voiceings and creates really awesome simple grooves.

Ex: The solo starts at 2:03

Sorry to revive an old thread but john frusciante is the man!
CB hit it right on the head. It's not just the notes he plays but the emotion and feeling he puts into each and every one.

I'm a huge fan of his and love almost all of his work. But The Empyrean is by far his best album. It's the soundtrack to my trip...

Seriously..
Right when you are starting to trip put that album on. Set the lights and mood meditative. Listen to it start to finish it is an almost astral experience. He is a genius.

Will to death, shadows collide, to record water for only ten days, curtains are all really good albums too. Shit all of them are good albums, even niandra lanes when he was all strung out is awesome.

He is one of the greatest and doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Most everyone I mention him to have no clue who he is even rhcp " fans".

Just do yourself a favor and go get you some of johns music. Your ears will thank you for the gasms.

He also lends some magic to every Mars Volta album up through Bedlam.

When he rejoined RHCP for Californication it was such a triumphant moment. I had the cd in my car playing over and over again more than any other that whole summer.

I recently found this, it's really fun to listen to and sing along, it's just Fru's parts from BloodSugar:

It makes you appreciate his restraint, how he knows what not to play, and how rich and stylistic his playing is.

Stadium arcadium is my favorite chili peppers album. John shines thru on that whole album like he wrote each part.
