The projected life expectancy will be 85 years in 2050.
    #15601564 -

I'm somewhat disappointed with this statistic. Considering the fact that on average right now its 79 years old.

I expected that by 2050 people would live until 100 on average.

Then again in the 70s, people thought there would be flying cars everywhere by the year 2000. Its 2012 and we're still crawling on the ground like idiots.

Who here thinks that this projection of life expectancy will be busted because of new medical research?
By 2050, what do you think the life expectancy will be?
You may choose only one

I wish life expectancy was like 50 years.

Do we really need to be taking up space for this long?

85 years is a long fucking time.

Its a possibility. But I doubt it.

Most nations get along together much more than in the past, I believe the trend will continue.

Also if the world had to end I believe it would of been during the cold war with nuclear threats we're flying.

Actually cyborgs will exist!

Its been predicted that by 2030 bionic eyes will exist to replace bad eyes.

Blindness will become a one week disease

Cyborgs not only will exist, they do exist.

However that wont fix maximum life expectancy, only average life expectancy.

dont see how this will happen, birthrates in the US have been slowed, the
baby boomers spawned Gen X, the baby boomers are dying off and by 2050 most
of the gen X crowd will be as well

if anything they're juggling numbers to come up with the life expectancy
figures as they usually do since the LER factors in deaths from wars and such
and not the actual, normal lifespan. this is part of how they're claiming
medical science is extending our lives

Honestly, I don't see the world's average life expectancy exceeding 80 any time soon. It's 70 right now, and even that is very high for any mammal. I expect it to stay around todays average for a while.

And as Pris stated, it doesn't even take into account that any war could happen that wipes out millions. It's nothing more than a guess really.

We'd still be in the 1600's if that was the case. If you want mankind to progress faster then we need to live longer to retain knowledge instead of having to reteach it all the time to newbies entering the world.

And no.. 85 years is not a long time. 1 billion years is a long time. Years go by in a blink of an eye.

Wars dont kill enough people to change average life expectancy.  Millions is nothing, that would be less than one percent.

My family always lives really long, naturally, and I have a weird luck for dodging death, so I think I'll be around for a while, unless somebody murders me.

A big world/nuclear war would have some effect on the average life expectancy of males. Maybe not as huge as disease would.

It would have to be huge.  Even during WWII the life span and population still went up.  It would have to be a ten time bigger than world war two, or more.

Yeah, after that comment I looked it up. Life expectancy did indeed go up during WW2. Surprised me a bit.

I think human performance and ability (including health and expectancy) can only be expected so much.  Think of it as an asymptotic curve.

A lot of major advances have been made, but you can only increase lifespan so much.  From this point forward, increase will occur, but much more slowly (e.g. 5 years every 50, then 100 years etc.)

For westerners I would expect it to stay or drop slightly, rates of disease like diabetes, heart attacks, strokes, and cancer keep steadily rising. Our sedentry lifestyle isn't helping neither is the slow accumulation of toxins in the ecosystem. Unless the person who wrote those stats has a crystal ball its nothing but speculation.

that's because we havent had any wars that resulted on 40-50 million deaths in the last 60 years

I hope with science and medical advancements that before I die the life expectancy jumps up to 150. That would be pretty cool. Would give men some more time to get some things done before they do.
