Projecting an image
    #4113690 - 04/30/05 05:07 AM (11 years, 7 months ago)

You know how everyone has their own diatribe on certain things. Usually a cynical yet well informed rant on whatever subject. Well, my big one is Image projection, and I usually end up pissing off large groups of people when the subject comes up, much like tonight.

I made a very light and meaningless quip about this girls shoes, which were turquoise cowboy boots. She got offended. So I lean back, light a cig and release the rant....H=her M=me

M:"why are you wearing those boots?"
H:because I thought they were cute
M:are you a cowgirl?
H: no but I used to ride them in show
M: so you thought the boots were cute and wanted to look cute to everyone else right?
H: No, i wear them because I like them, I couldnt care what anyone else thinks.
M: dont even care enough to get offended by a passing comment?
H: well....who are you to judge what I am wearing?
M: I am the judge, appointed by YOU. By wearing what you wear, you have attempted to project an image, a summation of who you are. I pegged you as the typical Vandy chick with 80's type punk tendencies, who is trying to be different just like everybody else. There, i just stereotyped you, maybe it wasnt the stereotype which you would have liked to hear, but nonetheless, you asked, and I answered.
H: your an asshole
M: Also! Peircings and tattoo's (which included everyone at the bar at this point) which have no utilitarian purpose, like belly rings and dolphins on your lower back, are simply there for other peoples judgement and pleasure or disdain. So, if you dress like a punk rocker, goth, cowboy, gangsta whatever, im going to assume that you would prefer me to stereotype you and pass judgement on your person without ever really having to talk to you.
H: your an asshole (and she turns around and ignores me)

---All too often I find myself relating to the Banky character from Chasing Amy....Was he an asshole? or just long winded yet blunt?

That's hillarious!:rotfl:

Asshole is a subjective judgement to make, do you feel yourself to be an asshole? The above dialouge sounded clever to me, not assholish. Some people just can't handle clever remarks. It sounds like you fucked with her head a little and "asshole" was the only way she new how to respond. Good job!

"By wearing what you wear, you have attempted to project an image, a summation of who you are."

Does this apply to you aswell, or just people with a different "outlook"?

This really should apply to anyone and everyone. Consciously of unconciously, it holds alot of truth.

i'd strangle you with one of my dreadlocks!

j/k
most blut people are deemed assholes, to me it's the passive/ agressive fucks that should burn. but freaking out on a girl who wears some boots you don't like is no reason you should hang her. if you do this simply to piss people off then it is you who is the "bad" one. sewing the seeds of anger will only get you shot in the end.

Hey that was cool! hehe

I tend to do the same to almost every human i meet:

I stretch and push the limits of our communication, untill covered truths and subconcious realities become vivid clear....this of course, makes most of them upset in the beggining, but it's always a rewarding experience in the end.

People always react in a negative way, when their ego is threatened, but its always a bliss to harm it.(we all know that subconciously)

I try to keep my appearance neutral. I have never dyed my hair, been peirced, or tattoo'd. I wear jeans, and a t-shirt, all the time. I think I am a full blown Nazarite now, since I havent cut my hair in a year now almost (i can feel my samsonite strength!!). By projecting this neutral and somewhat bland image, these "hipsters" usually tag me as a boring and disconnected person, which is perfect for how I would like them to perceive me. Since I have done this, I find my conversations are much more genuine, with much more genuine people.
Im sure it hinders my libido a bit, but Im past that stage of sport fucking.

take the image you believe you are projecting and distort it in order to completely throw off people's expectations and prejudices of you.

then punch em in the face.... especially if they're dirty hippies.

see, like that.
