Taoism

Taoism teaches that one should eradicate ones karma in order to obtain zen.

This is incredibly useful when you feel that you have done something wrong.

i'm pretty sure taoism doesn't teach anything about karma - and zen means meditation, and is a specific school of buddhism, not taoism

taoism is a lot about non-action - trying to 'eradicate one's karma' sounds a lot like action

have you read the tao te ching? it's great :sun:

Taoism is all about paradoxes. How Dark and Light are essentially one. It's the most accurate depiction of reality I've come across.

It's interesting to see how Buddhism picked up Taoism and transformed into Zen. Even though Zen's home is usually considered to be Japan, it's way more Chinese (Taoist) than it is Japanese. Buddhism, after it came over from India to China, picked up on the simplicity and teachings that Taoism had to offer as well as classical Chinese philosophy and thinking.

As for Karma and Taoism, it doesn't directly talk about Karma, but a very Taoist (And Zen) view is when you don't act, or touch anything, life just flows freely. There's no need to cling to security or peace: everything is in accordance with the Tao. You don't need to feel bad when you've done something wrong. It just is.

that's a very cool way to look at it r72rock..  i just recently started getting back into it. i first learned about it when i was 13, a very good friend of mine gave me a paperback on tao te ching. it doesn't seem to have the ego issues like buddhism, to me at least.

That's awesome. Taoism and Zen are two of my favorites. There are tons of different translations for the Tao Te Ching. I hopefully will be studying older Chinese script in order to try and understand the Tao Te Ching better.

And as for Taoism having less of an ego than Buddhism, I think it has to do with a difference in language. Buddhism talks lot about Buddha Nature and aspiring to become Buddha. Taoism talks about the same thing, just in accordance with something larger. (The Tao) Just my thoughts. :smile:

I ultimately prefer Taoism as it doesn't focus on suffering and whatnot.

If you really want to learn about the Taoist practices, check out Charles Luk's "Taoist Yoga: Alchemy and Immortality". It's like 5 buck at amazon or something.

Reality is that all religions are teaching many of the same things. For example, In taoism the heart center must be cleansed and activated before proceeding to the fire of the solar plexus.

In Buddhism it is called metta:

"Contemporary instruction for the cultivation of loving-kindness – such as is found in the works of Sharon Salzberg,[11] the Triratna Buddhist Community's Kamalashila,[5] and Matthieu Ricard[12] – is often based in part on a method found in Buddhaghosa's 5th c. CE Pāli exegetical text, the Path to Purification (Pali:Visuddhimagga), Chapter IX.[13][14] This traditional approach is best known for identifying successive stages of meditation during which one progressively cultivates loving-kindness towards:
Buddha sends love to all beings.

    oneself[15]
    a good friend[16]
    a "neutral" person

It Christianity it is called repenting.

The heart is a very valuable tool. Basically all you have to do is try to remember the things you want to correct that you know was wrong. Feel bad for doing it, literally. Then forgive yourself.

Sound too simple? There is probably a lot of things you will begin to remember as you go through it, but in the end you will have accomplished the unbound love that is free and pure.

These practices are not generally coming first, and will not work properly without an awakening, and all proper governor channels open. The heart is in the functional channel.



Transversing the governer channels and functional channel is called a Micro Cosmic Orbit.

I personally began with kundalini to get the governors open, then taoist alchemy guided me through the functional.
