Thinking about buying a hot dog cart

Does anyone have any experience? I live in Colorado Springs and there seems to be a lot of opportunity to make some money (I don't see many carts in town) and lots of foot traffic/festivals/events. What do you think?

BAck when I was at university there was this guy on campus with his hot dog cart, he had students lined up everyday.

I figured he made a shit ton of money. Barely any expenses, high markups. The only thing I didn't know for sure how much he had to pay the university to be on campus.

He was probably just off campus. Colleges have agreements with their food suppliers that contractually exclude things like hot dog carts. We're not even allowed to have student organizations bring Pizza Hut in for out annual events, which we bypass by just having all the students do it anyway and then be like "lol bigwigs, no $4 a slice, all that pizza's rubbery anyway".

I have a friend in Portland who bought a hotdog cart. Made pretty good money downtown and later sold it out for a ten-points on the net.

Said it got boring, but I don't know much about the specifics. It did have a surprisingly high overhead to get going, I know that much. Something like 30K.

It costs around 3k-4k for a good one. It has built in soda cooler and stuff, and a giant fucking umbrella. I just think you'd need to be careful of selling without a legal license. If somebody is out to get you, and the cops around you are assholes, it could be a death trap.

I plan on getting all the proper permits and paperwork. The biggest problem I see is that I'm required to have some kind of industrial kitchen to do clean up. That could be hard to find. I plan on going to a church (most of them have industrial kitchens) and either offering money every month or offer free hot dog services once a month for some of their events that they hold. That would be a good way to gain more contacts anyway.:mushroom2:

Don't forget you'll need a truck to transport the cart around. That's the only thing stopping me from buying one.

I have a SUV which I think will work.

For you:
Rent a U-Haul lol. $20 bucks a day is not bad if you're making enough profit. It's another expense but it get the ball rolling and it's only temporarily. Than you can buy a truck/suv:mushroom2:

If you have veggie dogs and brats you'll be successful. There's one around here that stays open until the bars close and they make bank. Nothin soaks up the beer after a night of drinking like a veggie brat.

always been my dream to pull off a hotdog cart heist.

of course i'd need a team of trained professionals, military background would be preferable, an arsenal of automatic weapons and an armored vehicle to get the loot out of there and to a safe destination.

of course, after offing each of my accomplices, i'd have a month's worth of free, delicious hot dogs. :yesnod:

I may be going down to Miami in the next year or so, I think a hot dog stand down there could be the shit, right on the beach or being able to choose where you work based on the vibes :smile:

If ya gonna sell anything only do it to people u trust implicitly and never sell anything illegal in America lul (unless your the cia or dea  :lol: )  the laws are rediculous.

Over here my friend got caught with 500 pills and 9 ounces of chronic and he didn't even get a fine :grin:  in the us you'd spend the rest of your life in prison for exorcising that basic human right.  Unless of course your part of the cia or dea mafia who runs it all.
