Planetside 2 - Next Gen. MMOFPS coming in 2012.

Hello everyone. I don't know if any of you have heard of Planetside, but it's been around for about 8 years now... and although there were many hiccups in its lifetime, it still remains the only real MMOFPS that is worth playing - games like WW2OL are just have way too poor of a GUI and game play/graphics to be called a good MMOFPS. Planetside was really the first to tip the scales in great game play along with great graphics(for 8 years ago anyway).

Quite a few people still play the original, however that is not the point of this post. Recently, SOE has confirmed that Planetside 2 is in the works and the game developers have been in close contact with the player base on updates along with screen shots and Q&A days and so forth.

Really want to get the message out there, its graphics will match BF3 and the game play will be superb and will the the most in depth tactical shooter by a long shot. Just picture BF3 on a futuristic, triple faction planetary scale with MORE game play depth, you literally choose your own role on the battlefield whether it be Infantry(light assault, heavy assault, engineer, medic, infiltrator, etc.) to a MAX(Mechanized Assault eXosuit, beefed up armored infantry), tank driver/gunner, light assault aircraft(air-to-air or air-to-ground specs) to anti-air, anti-vehicle, hacking, spec. ops to even dropship pilots.

Planetside 2 will be a rehashing of the original Planetside with a very similar story, just more in depth and will basically take into the accounts of the mistakes made in PS1 and make sure that they don't happen in Planetside 2. One of the main downfalls of the original game is the lack of advertising, which is why most of you have probably never heard of the game.

Beta should start within a few months, keep posted on http://www.planetside2.com or http://www.planetside-universe.com for the latest updates on PS2, Hope to see you on the battlefield!

Sounds cool but i wasnt impressed by the trailer on their site. Looks like a halo clone.

Yeah, the trailer sucks, everyone knows that. Keep in mind the game isn't even in its alpha phase yet so the trailer was basically a teaser of a teaser, it doesn't show any gameplay at all and was really just to give old Planetside players a look at what the new game will look like, graphic wise. But once they render the new engine fully and integrate the entire game, I doubt it will even look anything like the trailer. My guess is even better, especially with the screen shots that have been leaking out lately.

The game is definitely nothing like halo, except for maybe the sci-fi theme and some weapons may look a bit similar for the purple empire(they focus on high-tech weaponry).

Again, it's really hard to compare an MMOFPS to standard FPS games such as battlefield, halo, COD, etc.. Its really apples and oranges, but heres a small trailer from the original planetside made a few years ago, graphics are going to be much worse but it gives you an idea of just how much players were on a battlefield at a time, 100+vs100+vs100+ was standard on a good front, which halo/BF3/COD can't even compare to in the slightest- or any shooter for that matter.

I played Planetside for a time back when it first came out and I definitely remember it being a lot of fun.

I'll be keeping my eyes on the sequel for definitely.  I'm interested in any game that is an M.M.O. without being the typical R.P.G. style.
