Finally getting another tattoo!
    #15336888 -

I haven't had one since my first at eighteen, it's been seven years.  I'm getting my mom's portrait on my left arm with the words "Nothing Compares".  She passed away when I was seventeen and I've been trying to think of a tat for her since, but really in love with the portrait idea.  I'm getting it drawn up on Wednesday, hopefully inked on Friday!

Anyone else have any portraits done?  Were you nervous on how it was going to turn out, and are you happy with the result?

I want pics!

When it comes to portraits, do research and go to the BEST place you know of and spend the money on it. It's well worth it, and also ask to see the artists portraits before hand. I'd also ask if they are comfortable doing one. This is madre's portrait, there is nothing rude about asking some questions so don't hesitate.

Portrait tattoos A) Don't age well and B) Are difficult to have depict reality.  Even if you go the best of the best artists, in 10 years the tattoo's details will fade and turn what was once a nice, detailed piece into a blob of nothing.
Make sure whatever you use as your portrait source material that it will transfer into a tattoo what won't be unidentifiable in 10 years.  A good portrait tattoo artist is a must, research research research!  Just like a black and white artist, a portrait artist is important to find to get it turn out right.

maybe help the artist to design a simplified cartoonish version.  Photorealistic has so much detail that fades with time.

The picture I have of her has really detailed lines and she has really fair skin so it shouldn't be difficult or complicated.  It's a really clean pic.

I have seen some terrible portraits, & some good ones, you must research your artist very carefully.

He told me to come in Wednesday to work out the details and all, I'll see what he comes up with and we'll discuss more about it.  He's a dude I went to high school with and has been doing tats since.  I've seen a lot of his work and it's excellent.  That's why I chose him.  If he doesn't feel confident though, I'll nix the portrait idea, but either way I'm getting a memorial of my mom on my arm.
