It's amazing how much this experiment impacted the students after only 6 days. And to think that months/years/decades of this kind of treatment is supposed to "rehabilitate" someone…

It's just incomprehensible that our prison industry actually lobbies for tougher laws so that it may feed off this torture.  Truly sickening how messed up the US is.  "Land of the free", yet is the country with the largest percentage of it's population incarcerated.

Very interesting experiment, I too am surprised how "real" it became even though everybody knew it was an experiment and it only lasted for six days.

Haven't you heard? There is big money in the private prison system and having as many people as possible behind bars. Its probably the sickest example of the immorality of capitalism.

(Disclaimer: I'm not anti-capitalist, or saying any other system is better. Just saying its pretty sick that the prison system wants to take away as many people's freedom as possible in order to make a buck.)

Yeah, I know.  In the land of the free we have almost 1% of the population incarcerated.  It all comes down to a virtual reality that we call money.  We should eliminate money and go back to a barter system.

I did a year in federal prison at the age of 20(3 years ago).. and it is literally hell on earth. when people say "hell on earth", thats what i think of. Try sitting in a cell 23 hours out of the day by yourself and see if the devil doesnt start talking to you. Its not the violence thats bad, its being away from everyone you know, extreme loneliness even with friends in prison, severe depression (begging for pyche meds). that place is a complete mind fuck. But it did change me for the good and gave me an outsiders view into my life, im completely a better person now.

Read the book a few times like i did it's an incredible read about how we can take on roles with out consequence, and how we use power with out restraint when given abstract rules when given power. I would trade the book but I like it way to much I read it once a year sometimes twice. I just woke up at 4:00'so I'll try and give you an abstract later on today.

That sucks man, I started getting locked up when I was really young, like 11-12. It was like that in juvi, strait lockdown besides going to a short class, our meals, and forced "phsycial fitness" everyday and you were not aloud to talk anytime when we were around eachother. You'd lose points if you got caught talking and it would make your stay longer, if you lost so many points in a week you ate your meals in your cell which really didnt matter since you couldn't talk anyway.

By the time I became an adult I pretty much got myself out of trouble. First time I was in jail as an adult I was like this ain't shit because of how bad juvi was with that lockdown shit. I'd rather get in fights then be locked down all fuckn day, shit drives you nuts. I tell you what, I'd do 6 months in jail risking violence with other inmates over 6 months in that fuckn juvi locked down anyday. Jail was sweet compared to that lock down shit.
