How long should i keep my cakes alive? (flushes)
    #1506855 -

I have to very old casings that still produces shrooms. Both of them are on their eight flush. They only produce like 3-4 shrooms a flush but hey its still mushrooms.
Do the psilocybe amount radically decline after a certain time when the nutrient content get low?
They are cased in birdseed and verm.

Keep going till they either contam, you need the space or they stop flushing.
I dont think potency will decline on old casings, as when theres not enougth nutrient left they will cease to flush.

8 is good :-)

I'm a real slob and dont even wash my hands when harvesting. Funny thing is these are the same cakes that i dropped on my carpet a while back. I just scarped em up and put them back in the casings.
I use perlite humid tech with regular tap water (from fresh spring). I dont use any added chemicals and i have yet to replace the water.
The flushes are not to great but i kept the casings around for experimentation.

I store them in an airtight container and fan maybe twice a day.
