Scott Walker's The Drift

I'm wondering if any of you have heard Scott Walker's The Drift? It's an amazing piece of work. It's utterly terrifying. It's far more disturbing and unsettling than anything else I've ever heard.

Scott Walker's work stretches far back as a songwriter during the 1960's (which I love) but this is much more different. Avant-garde, sparse, ugly, and harrowing.

Listen to this with the lights out, please.



I was just thinking how weird and scary it would be to listen to that album while tripping. Is anyone up for it?

I saw the documentary 30th Century Man and then tried listening to some of his music after but it didn't do anything for me. I have listened to the song Clara but I will never spend another 12 minutes listening to that weird meat punching song. The documentary was great but the music is just too much.

That is a great documentary. To each their own, I suppose. In my opinion Tilt is far superior to The Drift, actually. I find it to be beautiful and harrowing as opposed to completely terrifying. I listen to The Drift once a year, if that, when I want to be really terrified. Tilt is something I can listen to much more often, however.

that was intense but i liked it. indeed those did sound like meat punching sounds. i did it in the dark like you said, good stuff.

They also built some sort of wood chamber that they dropped a mic into, and then hammered on. There's all sorts of strange percussion and noises on that album. There's a very disturbing donkey call. The donkey sounds as if it's dying a slow and torturous death. Really creeps me the fuck out.
