Your Light/Butterfly
    #14907553 -

I wrote another poem/song I'd like to share for anyone who might be interested..  I wrote this one over the course of this last year and is inspired by experiences with magic mushrooms, Vipassana, Eckhart Tolle's teachings, that one quote by Zhuangzi, the movie/book Into the Wild, among a few other things.  This is probably the most complex song I have written, 6 minutes or so sung along with a finger-picked acoustic guitar.  I thought some of these realizations that have helped me might speak to somebody else who is in a similar situation as I was in, so I did my best to try and fit them into a song.

I'm not sure whether I should call it "Your Light" or "Butterfly" though.  What do you think?

“Your Light”

You’ve broken a wing
I see it in your eyes
Meant to be free
And here your controlled by time
And bound by what they say you need
Just another soul-less battery
Defined

Just open your eyes
You don’t belong here
You’re in black and white
Completely suppressed by fear
Do you want life to pass you by?
You’re better than this
You are the butterfly
In disguise

And there is a one-way highway
And it’s a long time coming
There is a one-way highway
Waiting to set your soul free

Dig beneath
All the pain
Reconstruct
And reclaim
Your light
Your light

It’s a beautiful life
If you can see it
Let go of time
And you will feel it
Again

There is a one-way highway
And it’s been calling your name
There is a one-way highway
Waiting to set your soul free

Rise above
All the pain
Reconstruct
And reclaim
Your light

Get up, drop out, discover this life
The diamond in your eyes reflecting the moonlight is more than enough to survive
Still your mind and listen closely
The depth of your heart is screaming for you…

To face, your fears
And embrace, the love in the light
Chase, your fears
Away…

This is a one-way highway
And it is always waiting
This is a one-way highway
Take it and set your soul free

Underneath
All the pain
You will find
That you never change
Only your mind
Don’t stay the same
So spread those wings
And reclaim
Your light
Your light
Your light

thx for reading :smile::mushroom2:

hey just wanted to say i appreciated your poem, nice work.

i considered your titles, but i couldn't help but repeating the word "transformation" in my head while reading, perhaps that could be a consideration?

You're living it!

To me, the one-way highway is a metaphor for life's journey, and perhaps one's own sense of freedom and non-attachment to the material world.  No matter how long you have been stuck in the same old sickly scene, the freedom of your journey is always waiting for you to return to it, given you have the will and capability to do so.  And even after death, in my view.  The one-way highway has no start, and no end.  It is never-ending, and always changing.  Beautiful and free, so long as you can see it, and remember that it is, or should be, despite your present situation in life.

I also vote for Butterfly. Butterfly, as I'm sure you know, is an esoteric symbol for transmutation.

I like your poem. It read very well but you might want to consider taking the two "And"s out of the first stanza - I'm no master poet or anything but I think that would really make it come together.

Your poem resonate with this new idea I am trying in life which is to not know or understand as much and just "do it" so to speak. I'm talking about really harnessing that intuitive in-the-moment faculty which is paramount to thoroughly enjoying life.

thx Cosmo!  Yeah I like what you have in mind.  For most people, if not all, it is a very difficult thing to do.  Once we label something and give it a name, we store it in our memory and no longer have that sense of wonder we once had when we first saw it.  It's like music for me.. the more I learn about music theory and how everything in a song works together to make it what it is, what it was meant to be, becomes lost.  I no longer feel music like I used to, because I intellectualize it and tear it to pieces with my mind.  What I'm trying to figure out now is how to get back to that "wonder" state of mind.  This is why I love mushrooms, because they have shown me that it is still there underneath the layers of rational mind.  But can we ever truly get it back?  That is the pressing question.

I was about to say the same thing! The first time I did mushrooms I was able to really re-experience the world again. To this day nature and trees have a magical quality from how I saw them on mushrooms. It reminds me of that quote Jesus said about "taking on the eyes of a child."

You got some poet skills My Man.  I should know sometimes I lay down some of that shit too.  I think if I still were doing shrooms I would be laying down more of it.

Sometimes I think people are adverse to my verse.

For better or verse.

When the Moon Is Full

When the Moon is Full
The Crazies come Out
Time To Jump and Shout
And get Bailed Out
For Disturbing the Peace

But in the still of the Night
When that Full Moon is oh so Bright
Much to the Crazies delight
It's a beautiful sight
In that Moon light
Right?

Nice, they still have a magical quality sometimes, even now?  I rarely have a sense for the magical in nature much anymore, more like a sense that something is missing

Yeah those quotes by Jesus are some of the ones that speak to me the most now, after doing mushrooms.  Like how we must be like a little child to enter the kingdom.  And how the kingdom is within you and all around you in every passing moment.  As if the goal of our practice should be to return to our innocence somehow

Though this is one of the main themes of Sahaja yoga if you have ever looked into that.  And which reminds me, listen to this song! Gave me such awesome vibes for so long in India.

Enigma - Return to Innocence

Whenever i felt that magic on shrooms i always got the sense that its really simple to be in that state but our minds overcomplicate it.

And then the search began! Pretty nice looking back on it...

Hmm, so what do you think?  After all your searching do you think it is possible for one to reprogram the mind not to over-complicate things as much as it once did?

I believe it is for sure possible, but that the complexity of our lives and the people around us make it much more difficult to live in simplicity and better appreciate the present moment.  A kind of, "we awaken as one, or not at all" type thing

It is possible to stop overcomplicating, ime it seems to come from realizing that your Self is where the source is, that you have the ability to not overcomplicate by simply being still where you are right now, and each time the ego rises you bring it back to stillness/Self, its a bit like taming a wild animal. Or like watching a hallucenation & learning to not believe it. It's not about getting new beliefs & reprogramming the ego, more an abandonment of relying on the ego altogether.

One some level its true but i find its best to not blame your environment or wait for your environment to improve before you do, i find it's best to realize the problem lies not in the world but in the thought that you are the ego/the mind, forgetting your own infinite being as that must be the most fundamental mis-take possible in the mind.
