OP,  how far is the lion from you when you see it?

Has it been stalking you? or did you both just notice each other?

What's the terrain like?

Stand your ground. Easier said than done, but you can fight off a Mountain Lion. They weigh around 150 so it can be done. Yeah he could seriously fuck you up if he wanted to but chances are he'll pass on you if you stand your ground or show aggressiveness towards him.

African Lion? If he wants you, you're dead. Simple as that.

Considering that's a mountain lion, I'd jump, arms above head and make noises... Never showing the creature my back.  Chances are, if I came up on it I'd have my two large male staffie terriers with me and would not have many concerns for a three on one if it went that way...

Real question is, how do you outsmart a Siberian Tiger? Those fuckers are as long (from head to tail) as a Lincoln sedan and weigh 8-900 pounds. Yikes!

I once saw it a couple days ago and I'd say it was about 50 feet from me.  I was gonna go out into the woods but I noticed it before I went in and my instinct kicked in get the fuck out of there, i ended up running up my hill but I don't think the lion or wtvr it was noticed me, i imagine had i been there it may have tried to eat me.

The only reason I really noticed it at first was cause I heard a bunch of birds screaming at it, but whatever it was, was walking petty quietly but sort of quickly and stumbling around.  I figure it was a lion because it seemed to have a fat body unlike a coyote.

It isn't stalking me but I'm worried of what would happen if I ran into it again when I'm solo in the woods.  I'm not sure if mountain lions are known to hang around the same spot or just contiously travel or whatnot.      The terrain is pretty much like you'd imagine the woods to be uninhabited by people, a lot of grass in some areas, trees, branches, a little swamp near there when its more rainy.  Pretty much what the woods would look like in upstate new york but without much people around there.

I'm probably going to get a gun when I have the money in case we ever meet again.  I'd rather not kill it but I'll take a lions life over mine.

Dex, I would rather cross paths with a Komodo than a lion any day of the week. A Komodo, while very large, isn't going to chase you down and eat you. Plus I'm pretty confident a human could outrun one.

A big cat is a different story. If you aren't armed and they want you, there's really very little any human could do about it.

Man that must have been surreal. Can't imagine what the feeling would be -- out in the woods, alone, and within vicinity of a 150 pound big cat. Scary stuff.

There are basically none left in the wild, along with most of the other big cats. From what I understand, whenever they make animal documentories, most of the cats are filmed in reservations:sad:

That being said, Id have to go with...while smoking a blunt, expecting my impending death, Id make as much noise and make myself look as large as possible. Unless of course said lion has cubs in which case Id just punt one and except my fate

Yeah, I know. In reality seeing a truly wild Siberian Tiger is next to impossible. And yep, the Tiger species as a whole is critically endangered. Cheetahs too.

It's such a shame. And yet, poachers are still out there doing their thing. Fucking really pisses me off.
