I like to stand still and not make eye contact, if it attacks I raise my arms and yell really loud.  If that doesn't work, stick your thumbs in its eyes if you have enough blood/strength left.

With a mountain lion, you are supposed to make yourself look as large as possible and yell.

With a lion, you are supposed to maintain eye contact and walk away backwards.

The worst thing to do with any large cat is turn your back and run.
