Hookahs!

Just wondering if there are any other hookah enthusiasts around. My friends and I got introduced a couple of years ago, and have since progressed to the point that we basically have our own private hookah lounge. Between the 3 members of our core group and a few sometimes-comers, we go through so much shisha that we've formed a co-op and order it in bulk to get better prices. Anyone else in love with the caterpillar's pipe? What are your favourite shishas, bowls, hookah models, etc.? Anyone make their own shisha?

My dad has this fucking big ass, silver hookah he bought when we lived in Izmir Turkey.  He was at the Nato Base in Izmir in the 1960's.  He has some pictures of old turk men also, they are taking rips off a hookah, smoking what my father said was opium. 

That hookah, I have claims on it.  I just can't ask it now, cause he is gonna know Im roasting bud in it....not that he cares.  But he is under the impression I quit 30 years ago.

I've never smoked shisha, but I've always smoked bud out of hookahs. The hit from a hookah is soo smooth.

*sigh* Bud does horrible, horrible things to hookahs. The resin content is so high it gums up the bearings and sometimes the pipes as well. Not to mention the fact that, even using the vortex bowls, anything that small gets down in the water - which is a waste of both your hookah set up and your stuff.

I am a big fan of the Strawberry Lemonade flavor for summer and then the candy cane flavor for winter....sooo minty fresh! I have never even thought of making my own sheesha! That would be awesome...has anyone tried?

I've made a little of my own, but not a whole lot. I just used honey and glycerin to moisten it up, and substituted damiana for tobacco. I often mix it with either lemon or mint commercial shisha as the damiana has a faint citrus flavour that goes well with those.
I like the Fantasia flavours, but I find that they don't produce a thick enough smoke for my tastes. Have you had issues with this?

yeah I know what you mean about the smoke being thin, but everytime I think it's the shisha it turns out to be a sealant problem with the hookah :shrug: My hookah I have now is really wobbly where the middle stem piece connects to the bowel part. I need to get a new rubber ring to go around it to make it air tight.

Oh I had a hugeee container of Starbuzz spearmint shisha...but I had it for a long time, because I couldn't go through it quick enough, and it got really strange tasting.... :argh:

man my friend left his hookah at my house ages ago but I haven't been taking advantage of it, I need to stop by a smoke shop and get some sheeeeesh. I'm not really a huge hookah person but it's definitely quite enjoyable every once in a while. :thumbup:

only problem is its missing a little connector piece so it doesn't hit as well as it should but it still works.

I haven't had many sealant problems - probably because all of ours have gaskets that are almost too large for the bases. I've found that mixing the Fantasia with some Tangiers (it's unwashed tobacco so it's stronger, and they have a caffeinated line!) gives me rich flavour while maintaining the huge clouds of smoke I like to get. :smile: Damn, now I want to set up my hookah, even though I'm TRYING to get to sleep in the very near future.

raverkitty I wouldnt go with mint, get Pina Colada, White Peach, Blue Mist or something like that and it'll be the most amazing thing ever. I got sick of mint really fast too

Just revived my egyptian hookah recently. All it took was a trip to get some watermellon shisha from the tobacco store. My and my friends have been ripping it in my side yard for the past 3 days straight.
