Border issues.
    #14719567 -

I have a friend in AZ who lives only a couple of miles from mexico. (more like a mile) and near a border crossing.  He hikes and hunts extensively along the border and knows the area well.

Many politicians are making noise about how dangerous it is down there and how out of control the illegals have become with kidnappings in the US and shootings and gang stuff etc.

My friend says this is a bunch of bull.  He says he's never harassed in a town or in the wild and none of his friends either and he knows a fuck of a lot of people. He claims  it's a lot of nonsense that things are so much worse than in the past. He never even carries a gun.

What's going on here?

Is every square mile of land along the border a free-fire zone? Nope. That doesn't change the fact that many are.

I have a friend that I went to medic school with, he was a marine, A gentlemen in Texas was paying him 125,000 dollars a year to guard his property with the order to shoot tresspassers. From what I have been told some areas are extremely violent and riddled with theft.

Illegal immigration in the States is barely an issue, it's like gay marriage: blown out of proportion to play on people's prejudices.  The only "border issue" we have is the War on Drugs.

Reason we have legal immigration channels is to make sure that we don't have to many folks comming in at once. Our legal immigration levels are already much higher than they were, I don't know about you but I think  an extra 7-20 million people comming in will cause problems.

This area is supposed to be a major drug and coyote crossing.

That's probably because the friend in question is always wandering around there.

really... there's more than 30 million people out of work in the US, there's
27 million known illegal immigrants in this country, if they're working to
support themselves then they've put most of the 30 million out of work
meaning illegal immigration is an employment problem

if those 27 million arent working to support themselves then we're supporting
them, that's a tax burden on us because it becomes an issue of benefits meant
for US citizens going to illegal immigrants, that becomes a budget and
criminal issue

if those 27 million illegal immigrants are not working or collecting
government benefits it seems they must be supporting themselves through
crime, that means they're contributing to our crime rate and that becomes
a crime issue

if those 27 million illegal immigrants arent committing crimes, leaching
off the system or working then how are they supporting themselves.

those 27 million illegal immigrants have come through the border without
health screens, it's also a national health issue

those 27 million illegal immigrants came through without criminal
background checks, it's once again a crime issue

Meh, IDGAF  My great-grandparents came from Europe without a criminal background check, on a boat probably laden with diseases, and probably stole jobs from some of the WASPs who thought of themselves as the only true Americans.

of course you dont give  a fuck you say illegal immigration isnt really an
issue when in actuality it is as is a secure border, laws were much different
100 years ago when your great grandparents came... did they come as illegals
or did they come as immigrants looking to become american citizens. those
seeking citizenship come to stay, illegal are here to take the money and run,
they work here for 20 or so years and send the money back to mexico, most
already own a home there and plan to retire there when they're done working
in the US, if your GGP's came as immigrants seeking citizenship did they
'steal' the job or did they do what a good citizen would do, got a job

The law may have changed, but I don't have to agree with its spirit.  I like the spirit of America as a place welcoming to everyone.  I think people immigrate to the States now for the same reasons they did back when my ancestors did, because it offers a better quality of life.  They would probably retire here too if it were easier to bring their families.

And I don't actually see the difference between "stealing" and "getting" a job, it's not like Hondurans are coming and shanking gringos so they can work as migrant farmers and dishwashers.

Personally I think we have too many people here already.  I'd like to shut off most immigration to the US.  Illegals don't belong here anymore than me  being illegal in any other country.

there's a path available to obtain citizenship, many million make use of it,
what's being done is selective enforcement of laws, enforce the drug laws but
not the immigration laws, I say we stop enforcing the murder laws when it
come to illegal immigrants, afterall, in the spirit of the law, if they
were not in america they wouldnt have been murdered by americans

and no, they'd still go back to mexico, I've dealt with a lot of illegals
on job sites, talked with many of them, if they were interested in
becoming citizens here they'd learn the language at the least as opposed
to being here for 10 years and just not giving a fuck... my rule on every
job I've run is "speak english or hit the bricks", it's a life saving
safety issue
that everyone speak the same language

you're the one that started using the term 'stealing jobs', I said they've
put citizens out of work

All dually noted, I supposed I just have a different worldview and don't feel strongly about national identities.

Why couldn't that one language be Spanish?  English is not the official language of the U.S.  Probably in 100 years this will be a predominantly Spanish-speaking country.

It might have something to do with the fact that there are more people killed in Mexico each year than in Afghanistan since 2006 but what do I or the deceased really know? 30,000+ and counting
