I believe there are undiscovered primates inhabiting forests around the world. But I do think that a lot of the sightings and footprints found are hoaxes.

If some Sherpa in Nepal tells me there is a Yeti roaming around, I will not question him.

Conversely, I quote this song.

"You have heard of the Yeti, the Abominable Snowman… that is of course not an animal or pre-human being… that is originally one of the shaman’s gods. The real name is Banjankri, that means the shaman of the forest… So there for nobody will ever find the Yeti in nature because you have to go in trance and then you can find the Yeti easily…

… The Yeti loves to drink schnapps too, so he is like a real shaman and if you want to contact him, you have to put some alcoholic offerings in front of the forest."

The Patterson film^^^.
That's not a bear or a moose or anything else.
Either it's a bigfoot, or it's a really really really good fake.
I vote bigfoot, it's too good to be a fake from back in those days, though you could maybe do it today.

Bigfoot
Quote:
The scientific community discounts the existence of Bigfoot, as there is no evidence supporting the survival of such a large, prehistoric ape-like creature. The evidence that does exist points more towards a hoax or delusion than to sightings of a genuine creature. In a 1996 USA Today article titled "Bigfoot Merely Amuses Most Scientists", Washington State zoologist John Crane says, "There is no such thing as Bigfoot. No data other than material that's clearly been fabricated has ever been presented." In addition to the lack of evidence, scientists cite the fact that Bigfoot is alleged to live in regions unusual for a large, nonhuman primate, i.e., temperate latitudes in the northern hemisphere; all recognized nonhuman apes are found in the tropics of Africa and Asia. Thus, as with other proposed megafauna cryptids, climate and food supply issues would make such a creature's survival in reported habitats unlikely. Furthermore, great apes are not found in the fossil record in the Americas, and no Bigfoot remains have ever been found. Indeed, scientific consensus is that the breeding population of such an animal would be so large that it would account for many more purported sightings than currently occur, making the existence of such an animal an almost certain impossibility.
A few scientists have been less skeptical about the claims of the existence of sasquatch. Jeffrey Meldrum characterizes the search for Sasquatch as "a valid scientific endeavor". and says that the fossil remains of an ancient giant ape called Gigantopithecus could turn out to be ancestors of today’s commonly known Bigfoot.] John Napier asserts that the scientific community's attitude towards Bigfoot stems primarily from insufficient evidence. Other scientists who have shown varying degrees of interest in the legend are anthropologist David Daegling field biologist George Shaller, Russell Mittermeier, Daris Swindler, Esteban Sarmiento, and discredited racial anthropologist Carleton S. Coon. Jane Goodall, in a September 27, 2002 interview on National Public Radio's "Science Friday", expressed her ideas about the existence of Bigfoot. First stating "I'm sure they exist", she later went on to say, chuckling, "Well, I'm a romantic, so I always wanted them to exist", and finally: "You know, why isn't there a body? I can't answer that, and maybe they don't exist, but I want them to." However, the vast majority of evolutionary biologists, anthropologists and paleontologists completely dismiss the possibility of the existence of sasquatch.

Won't be a lot of fossils in a place as wet as the PNW.
As for food, bears stay fed and so do elk, both as big as or bigger than bigfoots.
And if they are omnivorous, then it's double bonus buffet time.

Nobody has ever seen great white sharks mate, yet they clearly do.
Lack of evidence of bigfoots does not disprove bigfoots.

Why aren't there any fossils anywhere (bigfoots are not just purported to exist in the PNW, FYI)?

If bigfoots actually existed, then they would have to compete with bears, elk, and other creatures for food..AFAIK, the ecosystems where bigfoot is purported to thrive in would be hugely affected if he actually existed, and no such effect has been noted by scientists.

Why haven't any bigfoot carcasses been found? Are they at the top of the food chain where they exist? Does that explain why there aren't scattered bigfoot carcasses everywhere in their environment? Furthermore, where in the hell do they live? Underground caves? Why are they so difficult to find? Why are there absolutely no obvious traces of their presence?

If bigfoots have no tough competitors, then this means that they would practically deplete the food source around them in a relatively short amount of time..obviously, such a huge creature would have to eat a lot of food. Us humans aren't even that big, and we still eat a relatively large amount of food..in fact, we are depleting several food sources, such as salmon for instance.

Our affect on the environment is clear..where is bigfoot's? :undecided:

No, but evidence which points to the highly unlikely possibility that they exist sure does suggest that it's highly unlikely that they exist. :smirk:

Nope. "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence."
