Know any good vitamin/supplements to take daily?

Anything to increase health/lifespan/feel better, etc......

I was just watching The Transcendent Man and it got me thinking i should take advqntage of modern day halth knowledge.


Can anyone give any recommendaitons that seems good ?

Well, TwinLab DualTabs is a very good multivitamin/mineral time release supplement that I'd recommend taking daily.

DHEA is a good nootropic drug that helps with memory. Some people recommend that everyone over 25 should supplement with it.

Other than taking vitamin C if you're going to be around sick people, I'd just keep it simple with vitamins and supplements. :2cents:

I wouldn't take any supplement daily.  I take a multivitamin every other week.

Well, I guess the food supplements can be taken daily.  Like spirulina or chlorella. 

But I definitely wouldn't take multivitamins and or powerful body altering chemicals like DHEA on a daily basis.

1. It's completely unnecessary.  If you're eating a balanced diet, you should be getting almost everything you need already.

2. Synthetic B vitamins have been shown to cause problems.

3. Extra stress on kidneys to remove the excess (5000% daily value?)

4. New information is always surfacing, and who knows if taking too much of certain vitamins causes problems we don't know about?

5. I strongly believe everything should be taken in moderation.

Every day take 1 teaspoon Braggs apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon honey (local if possible) and 1 teaspoon lemon juice (fresh squeezed) in tea, juice or water.

I'll keep taking my whole one.

The only non-tinfoily thing that kinda scared me is your claim that synthetic B vitamins cause problems.
But by that logic, I should cut out cereal, oatmeal, bread... shit, just about everything I eat.

The fact is that myself and 90% of Americans are not eating a balanced diet.
And I definitely do not get the RDA of these vitamins.
So your first point is nice in a perfect world- but irrelevant in mine.

75mg of B1, B2, and B6 don't scare me a whole lot.
Although 5,000% does sound big and scary, there are plenty of doctors recommending more for certain maladies. (100mg B-complex anyone?)

And it is time release so it is absorbed for quite a few hours (allowing me to get more B1/B2/B6 and not just strain my kidneys + piss it all out).

Anyway... In light of the fact that the OP wants to take miracle pills to accomplish a better quality of life, I didn't think he'd be averse to a simple multivitamin.

That's up to you.  Just answering the OP's question.  What you take doesn't affect me.  And chances are you'll be fine.  Just how I feel about the situation.

But to address some of your points:

You don't even need to eat extremely healthily.  Eating some fruits and veggies once or twice a week is probably enough to give you most of what you need.  But in that case I would recommend a multivitamin once a week to supplement whatever you're missing.  Hell, even if you're eating McDonalds breakfast lunch and dinner every day of your life, a multivitamin once or twice a weed should probably still be sufficient.

As for cutting out B vitamin enriched food, I don't think that's necessary.  But with all the enriched foods, you're likely getting your daily value already, and it seems pointless to add another 10x your daily value when you already have everything you need.  Especially when excess amounts have already been shown to cause neuropathy and birth defects.

Either way, it might be tinfoily and irrelevant to you, but the OP might feel differently.  And if not, it doesn't bother me.  Just giving my .02.  I don't have anything else to do.. :lol:

I'm with both hands on this one, if you supplement your body with proper nutrition you will reap the benefits. Pills and powders do not absorb nutrients in the same fashion as whole foods.

I take spirulina and chlorella on a daily basis plus a digestive enzyme to help break down the food, other than that nothing else is really needed. However if your diet is high in omega 6 fatty acids I would recommend to either supplement fish oil or change your diet so you can get a more balanced ratio of omega 3's to 6's.

If you don't go out in the sun, or always use strong sunblock, then take vitamin D supplements.

I'm a pretty big fan of supplements...they let you eat only decently and still feel healthy as tits. :lol: Plus, some are great for anxiety, clarity of thought, memory, etc. I'll just list what I'm taking right now. I must say, though, my regimen is a bit tailored to daily toking. :pipesmoke:

-Vitamin D
-B-vitamin complex
-Ginkgo Biloba! (This shit is GREAT. Cut down my inability to recall shit while stoned (all the time, it really cuts the fog when necessary) by leaps and bounds, my focus is better, especially when I have to focus on lots of things at once. General, gentle, 100% natural nootropic. Plus there are apparently chemicals in it that boost pot a bit. :thumbup:)
-Greens+ (vegetable/super green food pills...I eat just about no fruits/veggies)
-Calcium, magnesium and zinc (comes in one pill...this is good for mild anxiety mostly)
-Fish oil
-Passion Flower (helps mood + MAOI benefits to pot)

I don't take a multivitamin, 'cause I think I got it covered with everything else. It took me awhile to put together this regimen, but it :feelsgoodman:

I use daily:

1 x broad spectrum multivitamin/mineral at 100% RDI
1 x Vitamin C 1000mg Time Released
1 x Vit B-100 complex (all B vitamins at 100mg/mcg except pyridoxine, B6)

The above three I break in 2 and take the half portion with breakfast and the other half with dinner.

I also take with dinner:

1 x 200 IU Vitamin E (natural)
1 x 1000mg Fish Oil

When I went on this, it took weeks but.. after those weeks I noticed clear improvements in functioning, such as acuter memory, brighter mood, less prone to fatigue etc.

If you want to take just one pill a day, take a broad spectrum multivitamin/mineral tab at 100% RDI, like Centrum. House brands of stores that sell vitamins often are way cheaper, you should be able to take a multi a day for less than $2 a month. If you break the pill and take them with breakfast and dinner you get bonus points because the same amount of vits now gets twice the stomach/bowel exposure time, you lower the (negligable) load on the body and still you spend the same $$ a day.

Make sure you get your Omega 3-6-9, great for the heart and depression!

Ginseng is good, I find when I'm taking it I don't need to drink coffee and I just feel good overall, make sure it's korean panax ginseng not the siberian or american stuff.

Ginkgo is one I've been meaning to try, I think I'll pick up a bottle next time I get paid.

Probably the most important is to eat healthy! Follow the food guide and try to keep coffee and energy drinks at a reasonable amount, or even cut them out completely. I recommend foods high in Tyrosine like eggs, almonds, and tuna.

Stay the hell away from piracetam and other "nootropics", that stuff is nasty!

I pretty much believe that if it's used in chinese medicine often it's probably good for you as they have a long history and good track record with herbs.

You're already getting far too much omega 6 as it is.  Do not take an omega 6 supplement.

I take one a day energy...cause I'm pretty active throughout the day....I think that everyone should take a multi vitamin daily because most people do not eat a balanced meal. Also there are just some minerals that you just have no chance of eating unless you go out of your way to do so...

Agreed in full, thats like giving a westerner a salt supplement, its already consumed in excess.

Best oils to take are fish oil or (edible) linseed/flaxseed oil
