Woot woot!

Here in Illinois, conditions are right as well.  I haven't spotted any pins yet, but I suspect in the next two weeks I'll be rolling in them.

I can't believe you found some in Maine already. I'm hoping next week in Kentucky

Just like a regular chanterelle. They're smaller, and I find them in sandier soil so they can be a bitch to clean.

Nice finds.

Thinker--I'm not sure if you're around Farmington ever, but I used to find many good chanterelles and black trumpets around Clearwater Pond, just north of Farmington. Good mtn biking & hiking trails there.

I saw 3 spots where I have found chanterelles in the previous summers with little chanterelle pinheads earlier this week. Went back today, 3 days since I first saw them, and they are tiny little clubs now, but have at least a few days left to mature into worthwhile sized mushrooms to gather. I've been covering them up with leaves to hide them from animals, and the other local hunters! lol I just hope I can still find them when I go back!

I've also seen cinnabarinus and a yesterday a first few horns of plenty too. I hope they all come up as prolifically as the last couple summers around here. I've never happier than when I come home with enough of any chanterelle to make a meal

They get chewy after being rehydrated.

I've sauteed chanterelles in butter/olive oil and then frozen them after draining off most of the butter/oil. They were just as tasty in my pasta and omelets after taking them out of the freezer as they were the first time.
