Does MDMA permantely decrease serotonin?
    #14424952 -

I want to try MDMA again. I only done it about 3 times in the past year. However I was told if you do it once your serotonin levels won't ever be as high as they could have been.

Is this true? Please explain and provide proof

i think this might be a myth due to mis-information, but i dont have scientific proof.  what i do know is that most all drugs work through the serotonin receptors.  combine that fact with the common misunderstanding that because mdma's main objective is making you feel fucking awesome, you could get a whole lot of "personal opinions"

however, what i can tell you as a fact is that having done pure molly vs. pills,  molly makes me feel great even through the comedown.  having had a friend who was getting paid in ounces of it and not money for const. work, i've done a bunch.  also knowing people who have prolly eaten jars of pills in their life and still just as happy or grumpy as before, i'd say you don't have anything to worry about.

just be responsible and respectful.  don't be the guy 10 pills in at 6 in the morning and decide to keep 'er rollin, ya know.  figure out your limits and stick to em.

I'm pretty sure regular use of MDMA will cause a downregulation of serotonin receptors. I don't know if it would be long term or not, but it seems unlikely to be permanent.
I do know 2 regular users who are miserable fuckers when they aren't rolling, but being negative cnuts may just be their natural talent.

I've done MDMA on and off for a few years, some heavy abuse for a bit but the rest of the time fairly moderate. I can only do it once a month without it really fucking with my head, doing it 2-3 times a month definitely keeps me lower than normal but I've also been doing it for years now (5). I don't think its a permanent effect, I've always felt better after a solid month of not dosing, and I haven't dosed in about 8 months and I feel great.

I don't think MDMA is very neurotoxic

It may down-regulate your receptors. This does not contain as neurotoxicity as it is 90% of the time reversible. It can just take a lot of time, sometimes even years.

As for it permanently lowering serotonin... That has not been proven...

The key word here is permanently. It can take years to fully recover from mdxx abuse.

I've taken a good amount of molly and I have to say that there seems
to be a short weakening of my mental capacity for a few days

but taking vitamins and drinking alot of water and not doing it like every weekend
seems to work fine.

i've heard 5-HTP can help quell some of the damage

Quote:
However, there is another reason for MDMA users take 5-HTP. MDMA may cause serotonin depletion, and taking 5-HTP in the days AFTER MDMA use may help re-build serotonin levels and may reduce the post-MDMA depression some people experience. Many users report that taking 5-HTP after Ecstasy use noticeably reduces the depression they experience in the days after.
