Bad Roommate
    #14244143 -

Seeking advice here.

I'm in my freshmen year of college and I live in the dorms with a super annoying roommate. He plays xbox 24/7, has bad hygenie, and leaves his shit laying around. (Clothes, garbage, etc.) There are what appears to be jizz spots on my futon, from him. Its embarrassing kicking it with friends in my dorm room. He never leaves the room besides going to class or getting food. He doesn't go out on weekends. He sits and plays xbox. When I come home on the weekend nights all wasted the room smells like straight up shit.

I have tried to bring him places, but he is too socially awkward and shy.

How have you guys coped with poor roommates? Any advice is appreciated.

I hope I don't sound like a complete asshole, but I just got done lifting and yet again he's playing xbox. Can't help but to rant here.

i've had a bunch of bad roommates.

you can't do shit until wait until it's over. you can use the situation to better yourself if you're into that sort of thing.

Well depending on how much you hate him, I have HEARD of ways to get rid of your roommate such as:
-planting drugs on him and ratting to the RA.
-Tell the RA that he raped you/made extreme sexual advances toward you.  Although its just your word versus his, they will put him in another dorm.
-Get him blacked out drunk wasted, let a gay guy have his way with him, and photograph evidence it all for blackmail purposes.

i could go on and on, my evility knows no bounds.
I have seen the first two I mentioned actually employed in real Life, the third one i just made up, but is still feasible.

I had a room mate who was the same way! He smelled very bad, did dragon wire sculptures and had no sense of cleanliness.  I just ignored him and hung out at friends dorms all the time.  This guy was so messy...i actually took pictures of are two sides of the room just to show the difference.  I dont know how people can live like that....

Oh yeah and he played pokemon but left it on so I would wake up to his nintendo making all kinds of wierd pokeomon noise...terrible...

If you have any guts at all, you'll do one of the entirely possible and feasible scenarios i told you about.
If not, then QFT for infiniti because you had something you could do about it.

Quite the array of suggestions. Haha thanks.

I especially like this one. I always try to keep zen and realize it's just in his nature, but it's hard to take the high route every day and ignore him.

You've told him your concerns, right? Just wondering cause you didn't specify in the OP.

If you have complained to him and he's just ignoring you, you might want to try and switch rooms. I dunno if your dorm will allow that, but I know a few of the kids in my building moved around because of overly messy roommates.

i remember this one kid i used to hang out iwth freshman year had this roommate that was legitimately retarded, i felt so bad for my friend...his roommate at nitetime would shut all the windows and turn off all the fans when it was like 90-100 degrees out, then my friend would tell him to stop it and open the window and turn on the fan, and he would wake up like an hour later in a puddle of sweat to find that his roommate shut the windowns and turned the fan off once he fell asleep...he used to do the weirdest shit

my friend tried to get rid of him but the RA wouldnt let him change rooms so he left the school lol, felt so bad

well i would start by asking him to be cleaner. if he doesn't start throwing his garbage dirty clothes, ect. on his bed. if he gets all butthurt start being a shitty room mate back. leave jizz on his pillow. shit with the door open and don't flush.

as for his social life, it's his and it sucks, don't invite him into yours, are you crazy!?

Okay I'll stop being a deutch for a moment and give you some genuine anecdotal advice.

There is a HUGE waiver you have to sign to live in the dorms.  Its basically a contract that says you wont cook meth and rape sluts in there etc....
WELL if you read yours carefully, you'd notice that there is a section about cleanliness (in 99percent of all dorm contracts), and how each and every student is trusted to uphold these rules, but in extenuating circumstances they can intervene (they usually only do when your breaking a state or federal law).
WELL IF you roommate is GENUINELY, SERIOUSLY, FORRRRREAL a slob, you have the authority to get him kicked out/placed in another dorm.
All you have to do is inform your ra/ca and they will cite him.  If he doesnt get his act together (and it sounds like he wont), he'll be placed somewhere else.

WELL I'm assuming that his slobliness is the huge factor here, but it might just be that YOU DONT PLAIN LIKE HIM. In which case you may have to get creative in kicking his ass out/ getting him placed somewhere else.
Good Luck, All is not lost yet.

my freshman year roommate was the exact same way. No joke, he went over 3 weeks without a shower. He stayed up all hours of the night playing his obnoxious fucking video games. I think the worst was when I woke up one morning and he was straight up staring at me and smiling...

I eventually just learned to live with it... and I spent as much time as possible away from my dorm.

After that year I moved to an apartment off campus and love it.

At least I'll have a story to tell the kids someday.

I'm all for the passive aggressive ways to piss him off but being that's how I am and don't usually have the balls to straight up tell someone they're bothering me.  Soooooo...I'd def tell him about your concerns about how it smells and make sure he knows it's a problem.  Be nice and don't be a dick when you tell him, but regardless I'd go tell your RA and see what they could do.

If the ra's don't do shit for you and he doesn't stop.....I'd start throwing his shit on his bed including the garbage.  You could also threaten to do something(leaving it vague) if he doesnt stop.

You could always hide his Box til he gets the room clean also.

its shocking to me that people still live in the dorms with this nonsense. it seems like this always happens. i dont think ive ever met anyone who enjoyed dorm life.

That's fucking lame if you ask me.

I had a roommate (who was also a security guard..) at my dorms that did exactly that... planted his very own bong in my room and called up his other buddy - security guard - and just let him in. He never complained but as best I can guess I practiced my guitar too often..  (not too noisily... but can still be heard through walls) for like 5 hours a day. As a result I lost my home, and 7,000$ in scholarships.

Suffice to say that man would think twice now regarding the karmic retribution his unscrupulous actions may bring him :smirk:
