Roommate Guidelines

Whats up dudes, I usually dont post here, but I feel this is the necessary place to ask this question. OTD is far too wacky to be serious, and I need help.
I'm thinking about getting a roommate, very soon, so I am writing up a set of guidelines we both would agree on. I've came up with:
1) Each person pays 1/2 of total cost of living (embodies rent, and necessary, agreed upon, bills), 2) Each person upon receiving their first (or 2nd) paycheck of the month contributes an agreed payment to cover the cost of living, 3) Each person pays independantly for their own food, 4) Keep house reasonably clean
#1 is to keep things fair, #2 is to make sure the shit gets payed, #3 is because I will most likely be eating a different selection of foods (healthy stuff :P), #4 so the house doesnt smell and look like rotten smegma
Am I missing anything?

I think anyone that's looking for a roommate automaticaly assumes the points you made a point of pointing out. I'd go as far to say it's common sense.
Some things you should consider is; Parking, some places only offer one parking space. Smoking, could be a problem if one smokes, and the other doesnt. Dishes, doing your own is k3y. Music, sometimes loud music when your trying to sleep sucks. Parties/Visitors, sometimes other peoples friend arent k3y.
Those are some of the more overlooked 'rules' you should think about.

phone bill. make sure to get a good solid agreement about the phone bill, each pays half the basic fee, and then for all the calls they make if thier's an outrageous bill. so that if they call long distance, they best be payin for that shit.
i would say dishes would have to be a big concern too, keep them clean, i have a rule that i've always followed when other people are around, and that was always "i wash every dish i use once"... so basicaly, if i grab a clean one, i wash it when i'm done, if i have to grab a dirty one, i wash it, use it, and put it back dirty. (unless it's a easy clean that only needs a rinse) ... even with that, i hate having to wash a bowl and spoon first thing in the morning.

The best way to avoid the phone bill problem is to not have long distance connected and to use phone cards or cell phones.

thiers long distance taht has a cap on the price, usualy, it's unlimited for $20, or 5 cents a minute, untill you get to $20 worth, then it's unlimited. these deals are going around a lot right now cause of cell phones

I'm hoping my roommate isnt going to be a phone whore but yea I guess I did overlook the phone bill. As far as dishes, thats easy; I plan on just getting paper plates and plastic cups Doing dishes sucks, so I'm getting rid of them at their core, MWAHAHAHA
Thanks, everyone who replied

I had 2 different roomates in one year(in college dorms) who each did the same thing...
The first was mostly strait-edged but one night he went out and got drunk. I woke up one night and he was in the process of pissing on his own laundry.
The second was a total hippie and when his friends came to visit, they got completely shit-faced. So one night he had some friends from home over and they were all passed out drunk. I'm not a sound sleeper so when he got up out of his bed, I woke up too. This girl was sleeping on the floor at the side of his bed so when he got up and unzipped his pants I yelled out, "Brian!" No response.
He proceeded to piss all over this poor girl who was too drunk to wake up. "BrIan!" I yelled again. He turned to me and just laughed.
So I went back to sleep.
Keep your piss in the toilet.

I had an experiance where someone pissed all over a room twice in one night.
The dude who lived there was kicking him from his bed and he just kept pissing. We were all too drunk to actually do anything, especially the tenent there so he went back to bed and got pissed off in the morning. LoL
He pissed all over the place.

If you are male, the best roomate you can get would be a nice chick. but you CANNOT FUCK HER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
Women make awsome roomates as long as yu are chill and treat them with respect and DO NOT FUCK THEM. Have I said yet NOT TO FUCK THEM?

What is people's deal with pissing in places other than the toilet? Jeez. I lived with an alcoholic who nearly burned down our apartment, never paid rent, and stole stuff from me, but he never pissed on the floor.

It probably wont be a chick cause I'm a fairly sexual dude and it'd come to that (and thats when shit starts getting uber complicated).
Based on what everyone else said, I'll just get a roommate that I know I could beat the shit out of. So if he gets out of line and starts pissing on floors n' shit I'll set his ass back with a kick to the forehead.

hahahahha, what a plan.
My roomate is the best ever, I have seen him 2 times since July and he pays half of the bills each month. He works construsction is on the road 24-7 spring-fall, he wants a place to keep his things and a place to crash if/when he comes back in the winter months. Only problem is he doesn't clean up his shit very well, I have no problem looking past that though, I'm a little picky and our arrangment is to sweet to complain about little bullshit.

The roomate must have their own phone!!! Even if you have the verizon freedom plan with free unlimited calling. Either way, they will run up the bill or be on the phone all the time & you have to wait to use your own phone.
Express concern about wasting energy. I have had roomates whos boy friend would come over to do laundry, not leaveing any cash, food or nug donations, & he would spin the dryer dial all the way up to 150 mins, i nicely said, dude, there is no reason to do that, he nicely agreed, next time he did it again.
It is important that when you arrive home from work or the bar at night that the house is not over run with people you do not know, drinking your booze, roughing up your play station, or useing your wide screen tv as a float in the pool to jump off of, or haveing sex in your bed. If it is your house, make this a standard rule.
Get a $100 deposit, most roomates will not be able to give you much more for a deposit, and they always stick you with about that much in bills on the average when they leave, so get a hundred bucks, it is not alot to ask up front.
Make a few calls to their job & such to get references, do not allow all the cool people in the bar tell you that the person is ok, and later find out that they were an escaped prisoner from rhode island, on a mission to knock up every bbw on the east coast, ( this actually happened to me).
