Ultimate Fight Night: Freakishly athletic black dudes taking over the world
    #14189374 -

That pretty much sums up where the sport is headed.

I have to disagree with you on this one. The majority of the pound for pound best fighters right now are white and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Dan Hardy fucking sucks so its no surprise that Johnson put such a beating on him. I thought Davis did a good job at beating lil Nog but I don't see him beating anyone in the top 10 imo. His wrestling is tight but I think he tries to game plan and stick to a 1 dimension fight style which will get him nowhere at 205. On a side not I thought the jung/garcia fight was pretty good. The card as a whole wasn't that bad either.

The guy in the last picture is Kevin Randleman, a known steroid-using MMA fighter who has pretty much past his time.. As for the UFC fighters above they are nowhere near at the top of their divisions with the exception of Jon "Bones" Jones...

For every crazily athletic black guy in MMA there are 10 more Russian or Brazilians.. Its pretty even if ya ask me.

Cheers!

Phil Davis just beat Rogerio....so yeah he is now considered a top contender.  Undefeated UFC record as well.

That pic was more just as a joke.

But the Monster was for a while, considered the most gifted physical fighter out there.

Nowadays he's seen as a joke.  But if you were around earlier when he was just starting to come up, he was one of the most highly feared guys out there.

that higher proportion of fast-twitch muscle fiber can be advantageous to a fight, yes... but there are so many variables in MMA and it's such a vast and complex game with so much knowledge to be learned by a fighter that I don't think it's a big enough quality to ensure that explosive black dudes take over the MMA rankings..

Going to have to disagree with the general statement that freakish black athletes are taking over the sport. Jon Jones is unreal and will be a force for a while at 205, but he is the only real example that i can think of. Phil Davis is good, but not great. He has the potential to be, but so do half a dozen guys that are not black that are up and coming in mma. Once the Davis v Evans fight happens then we will if Davis is going to be a real "monster" or not.

For most of you, who didn't watch MMA until the reality show became popular in 2005,  you weren't around to see how long MMA has gone without any title contenders with seriously gifted athletic talents.

Just like with boxing, the majority of early competition are white people.  Yet once the more physicially gifted fighters take over, you'll see nothing but Africans and Latinos.

None of you were watching MMA back when the titles were all held by white people (Franklin, Sylvia, Liddel, Hughes).  Kind of like boxing before racial integration was allowed.

Yet all of a sudden, like in the matter of the past 2 years,  almost every single top ranked fighter in every major weight class (except LW, WW) is either Black or Latino.

Lmao I have been watching since Rutten, Miletich, and Coleman were champs and I still disagree with you. Ever thought that since the sport exploded in recent years and has become more popular that more people are becoming involved and actively participating in the sport? And with the increase in total participants comes the increase in different races for the participants. And the top contenders are just that, contenders. They are not title holders. And who really cares if they are black, white, asian, latino, hispanic, etc. etc. if they can fight and be competitive in mma then more power to them. The "new breed" of mma fighters are great for the sport. Fights are more fast paced, the fans see more knockouts and subs, its just all around better. I still can't tell if you are saying that it is a bad thing for non-white athletes to be in MMA or not. I would love some clarification though so i don't make any stupid assumptions.

No, it's just plain fact that in the overall genetic pool, africans and latinos possess superior athletes than white people.

If you don't believe this, then you've never turned on the TV to watch boxing, football, basketball, baseball, or any other major sport that isn't hockey.

It's just that not until recently has these demographics really taken MMA seriously.

You mention that you followed MMA since Miletich was a champ.  Then you out of all people should be able to recognize this sudden influx of freakishly talented fighters coming into the sport.

It's only been prominant in the past, 2-3 years or so.

I mean come on, even look at what Herschel Walker can do at his old age.  Imagine if someone with his physical gifts to become a top flight NFL player began training at a much younger age.

That's how you end up with the Jon Jones', Phil Davis', and Anthony Johnson's of today.

Okay cool as long as we were not going down the race road then I will tag along for the debate.  I been watching for a long time yes, and my take on it that the sport used to be underground and catered to the backroom bar fight crowd who just wanted to see someone get in there and get their head kicked in and call it a night.

Now that the sport has evolved into where it is today, coaches, trainers, etc are going out and scouting just like they would in any other sport and trying to find the best athletes for the job. They could be black white Latino etc, as long as they are good.

If you were to change the post around to state that their is a total influx of freakish athletes in mma, then i would agree with you 100%, but at the same time I would know that it is due to the growing popularity as well. To be honest the best overall "athlete" imo is GSP. I mean he is just a physical specimen. No flaws and his stamina is on the brink of insanity. The remainder of this year will tell a lot about the new up and comers. I think a lot of it has to do with the overall rapidness of change with the sport. you say the last 2-3 years, but look at even the last year, title holders are changing after every event, (with the exception of Silva and GSP who will never fight but I can dream  )

As for the first sentence in your response "No, it's just plain fact that in the overall genetic pool, africans and latinos possess superior athletes than white people." I am not sure what you are saying. Are you saying that black people and Latino people are factually better athletes than white people? If so I would love to see some documentation of this. A study or something credible that states that race "x" produces better athletes than any other race. I will save you the time and effort because you will never find that. That is not a fact, it is an assumption. There a numerous studies that show that different races have varying degrees of fast twitch fibers and other factors that contribute to overall total athleticism, but none that state one race is better at athletics than another. You hit it right on the head when you said "Then you out of all people should be able to recognize this sudden influx of freakishly talented fighters coming into the sport." That statement is true. And I totally agree. better athletes in general not just the Black or Latino ones.

Yes there are many new faces to the sport of MMA and a lot of the contenders for the various titles are not white, but I still feel that it is more of an influx in much better athletes in general and not just and influx in better athletes from one race. Hopefully I didn't step on any toes or anything. Just trying to have a friendly debate.

I've been watching MMA for a long time too, started back in 2000 during the Pride Grand Prix.

And yeah, with any physical sport, the blacks and latinos end up taking over.  It has nothing to do with genetics as much as it has to do with history, slaves being bread for superior physiques, and socioeconomic status.

It's not a matter of race as much as it is a matter of reality.  Look at every major sport and the demographics that dominate them.

It was just going to be a matter of time before alot of top flight athletes committed themselves fully to this sport.

GSP is an awsome athlete, but he grew up the same way that alot of poorer people did, having to fend for himself out on mean neighborhoods, etc.

Let me just ask you something.  In all your years of watching MMA, have you ever seen someone with as much physical talent as Jon Jones, who took the time to study the arts and techniques of fighting at such a young age?

I sure haven't.  Not THAT kind of power and speed.

I can see it happening, easily.  Give it another decade or so, and MMA will be dominated by the same racial demographics as every other major sport.

Ok now I see where you were trying to go with the initial post, good. And yes I agree with you on the way the sport will be in a decade. Lol there is still Tennis and Golf waiting to be conquered.

Anyway I am very pleased with the direction the sport is headed, regardless of which race dominates the playing field. As for Jon Jones, I don't know what to think of him. He is an unreal physical monster. His physical stats alone make it hard for most 205 fighters to compete. His reach is just unreal. However Jones is not just a freak athlete, like I would say Davis is, Jones is far beyond his years as far as technique, timing, decision making etc and that is why I put him in a class by himself. His upper middle class upbringing probably helped out with that to a degree. he had a lot more opportunities and what have you. But Jones is where the sport is headed imo. He is going to be unworldly in a few years, but I also expect more fighters like Jones (not physically, but just overall dominating) to be in the sport soon.

Taking nothing away from this Kid at all, been following him for a while, but since you asked here you go: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/2011-03-19-anthony-robles-wrestling-championships_N.htm

With one leg he destroyed his division last year.
