idk i think the Mavs can pull it off.. i think several match-ups.. they will probably be playing josh howard on dwayne wade.. maybe switch jason terry also..
i think the Mavs will have a little trouble in the post but not too much.. but the Mavs should be able to pick apart the Miami defense and get a lot of open looks for their great shooters

Dirk is definately at his peak, but I think it will be a difficult match against Shaq and Wade. In the Conference finals the Suns got big leads on the Mavs all the time, but they eventually lost series because the Suns hold leads poorly. It will be very different with the Heat, as they seem to not only create large leads, they also know how to hold on to them. Also, while it's a first finals appearance for both teams, Miami's drive is largely the result of a massive shake up in recent years with the aquisition of Wade and Shaq, among other veterans, where with Dallas it has been a long hard slog to the top. Plus, the Heat defeated Detroit, who many expected would win it all this year, with a flu-ridden Wade. Granted, something weird happened with Detroit after game 3 in the Semi finals. I think the finals are going to go to 7 games this year.

Idk i dont think Miami has nearly as effective offense as the suns did.. the suns had a great parameter game, something miami lacks... i think dallas will be able to run the court and wear down the miami interior

At any rate, I'm happy that the finals are seeing two new teams for a change. Even for the loser they will still have accomplished an impressive mile stone.
The question is, is it over for the Pistons and Spurs, or just a bad year? I can't exactly pin point what went wrong for both teams. The Pistons - perhaps Karmatic forces were at work, because they went downhill ever since Rasheed Wallace made those comments about sweeping the Cavs.

You cant pinpoint what went wrong with the Spurs? How about the fact that Tim Duncan played more or less 100 games this season with a broken foot, and they STILL almost made it to the Western Conference Finals. Give them a healthy Timmy and Dallas doesnt look near as good. They'll be back next year...

Hopefully. I like Tim Duncan, he's one of my favorite players. He has probably the best personality of anyone in the league, considering he enjoys classical music and playing D&D.

I'm pretty sure David Stern would love to have a team led by Dirk Nowitzki, a European, win the whole fucking thing. More publicity over there, more fans, more merchandise, etc.

Heat are gonna take it in game 6 mabye even game 5...
just look at the stats.... Dallas suffered two huge losses to the Heat this year. Also the Heat have a big player to go against Nowinski (even tho they arent gonna be gaurding eachother) Nowinski suddenly wont be so good at blocking 100% of the time where the Suns had no big players to go against him having Staudimire out the whole season, and i dont think there are any match ups for Wade, hes just too dam good, if Nash wasnt such a good team player i believe Wade should get the MVP because of his consistency on the court unlike Nash who has his good and bad days, plus his health isnt all that great with his contant back pains...

hmmm people dont really care if a player is from their country.. they care more about local players.. hometowns ect.. i mean ud think Yao would be a huge hit in China or wherever he is from.. but no.. Tracy McGrady and LeBron James still lead sales overseas
Im sure germany wouldnt mind seeing Dirk win a championship, but im sure they dont really give a fuck if he loses
Mavs will win the series

Last I heard Yao was fairly popular among Chinese basketball fans In Russia basketball fans have their beloved Kirilenko. In Canada everyone was cheering for the Phoenix Suns because of Steve Nash. Considering that basketball is played everywhere in the world today, while the highest level of play is mainly confined to the United States, among basketball fans in other countries, their superstars who made it into the NBA are fairly popular, and their favorite teams are usually the one their country's prodigy is playing for.

Terry was on fire he hit 13 of 18 shots, Nowitzky and Howard weren't on their game though going only 7 of 28. Sunday we'll see them the way we're used to seeing them.
Shaq didn't really get going either he had 16 pts and missed 8 of 9 freethrows. (9 would've been a record) Then Wade wasn't really helping his team much either... he had a lot of points but he missed a shit load of shots. If he passed the ball more and quit hogging the ball I think they would've had more points as a team.
Game 2 is going to have a shitload more shots. We get our starters going and our bench will back us up. Mavs will take it.

The Mavs are stacked, i love how anyone can step up for them.. terry, howard, dirk, devon harris... anyone on that team can step it up and take over a game.. i love that
Miami doesnt really have that, if they cant get the post and wade going, they are in for a LONG night
and i dont like Yao at all.. to me he is way to soft to play center in the NBA.. the centers of my time were Patrick Ewing, David Robinson, and of course Shaq Diesel

Too soft for the NBA?!
No offense, but you have no idea what you're talking about. Yao's stats sing a completely different tune. Any center that can average 17.5 ppg and 8.8 rpg (and 13.5 and 8.2 in his rookie tenure) has talent no matter how weird looking he is on the court.

i didnt mean soft like statistically.. i just mean that hes not physical.. like.. he just gets bullied in the post.. he can block some shots just cause hes freakishly tall, same with rebounds.. 7'5''? i mean hes the tallest player in the league.. id expect him to have more rebounds than that!
just two players i was bothered to look up.. both had more rpg.. shaq and ben wallace.. both about 4'' shorter
i dont know what im talking about? you dont.. i didnt say he wasnt a good player, i was implying that hes not a good center.

in the few games i've seen he's played pretty damn well, but i too have always thought he was a little "soft" and not very physical

Besides Shaq and Big Ben, what other centers in the league are statistically better than Yao? And in consideration of Yao's age? You'll find that Yao is one of the best centers in the league, while those who are statistically better are mostly veterans a few years shy of an exodus from their prime. I don't get why you say he's not a good center simply because Shaq, perhaps one of the greatest centers in the history of basketball, has slightly higher scoring and rebound averages. Ben Wallace - top notch defender and rebounder, but Yao outscores him still significantly with only a slight deficit in rebounds. It's like saying Manu Ginobili is't a good guard because he's not as good as Michael Jordan.

once again im in no way implying that Yao isnt a great player.. i just dont feel hes physical enough to play the center position, i think majority of his stats are due to the fact that hes freakishly tall, id think any 7'5'' player in the NBA would net as many rebounds and similar point totals.

I like Tim Duncan, he's one of my favorite players. He has probably the best personality of anyone in the league,
Tim Duncan has a personality?

Very nice victory. But man, I didn't think Shaq could possibly play so horribly in a Finals game. The Diesel is out of fuel. I don't think he no longer has the energy to help carry a team to a championship. I think it's gonna be all Dallas this year.

I caught the entire 4th.. wow that was intense. Shaq's wife and his dad were hysterical after he made those two free throws. I think Wade finally threw off that flu too, he was indefensible. If Miami gets the next game, it's a whole new series.

goes 2-3-2
If needed game 6 is the next home game for Dallas.
The Heat played really good last night but the Mavs didn't. That being said, the Heat barely won.

the divisional playoffs were 2-2-1-1-1 and the championship is 2-3-2....if youve been watching the games you would know this.... even if your schedule was right game 4 would be in dallas, not miami... i take it you dont watch basketball very much...

I think the Heat MIGHT have a chance, but they have to win the next game for sure. If you go to Dallas down 3-1, you will not win.
That said, I complain about Shaq all the time for missing free throws. He says he makes them when it counts though, and I guess he's right...
I think the fix is it. I bet it goes 7. More games = more $$$

That was absolutely incredible.
I'm from Chicago, I grew up when they were winning Championships left and right. I *loathe* Michael Jordan comparisons, which I feel the press throw around with impunity. Dwayne Wade is as close to MJ as anyone I've seen.
The whole fourth quarter of the game today, he didnt even look for anyone else when he was coming down the court. HE knew he was taking the shot. The MAVS knew he was takign the shot. *I* knew he was taking the shot. And nobody could stop him.
And the cold-blooded free throws to ice it, after Dirk, who people were proclaiming the best player in the series missed them in game 3.
I used to watch D-Wade at Marquette, 'cause I live a few blocks away from there, and I couldnt have told he would be this good. I'm totally amazed by his performance tonight.
WOW.

101-100 Miami. Definately one of the most intense games of the playoffs this year. I think tonights game also broke the record in total overtime games in a postseason at 10 this year so far. Dwade also broke his playoff scoring high at 43 points, having tied it at 42 in game 4. It's definately not looking good for Dallas. They played good tonight, but Miami held the clutch in the end. Dallas needs some serious home cooking to overcome Dwade's momentum.

I think the refs totally fucked this game up. There was no foul on Dwade right near the end. He got tunnel vision and made a wild drive, and the ref choked and called a phantom foul. I saw the replay, there was no foul on Dwade.

But you had to see it in slow-motion to make thne call....
Movingt at real speed, on the court, can you blame the ref for the call?

I don't understand why they don't have video review guidelines like in the NHL. I saw the replay on ESPN and Wade was definately not fouled, and the announcers agreed.

just look at the stats....

2006 NBA World Champions: Miami Heat. Mavs lost in a heartbreaker. I really thought this was the year for them, but it looks like the phenom Dwayne Wade has just established himself in the league as the next Great One.
I hope the Mavs keep everyone together and go for another serious run next season.

Fuck the NBA. Mavs 2 Heat 1 Refs 3
The Heat shot something like 43 free throws and the Mavs shot 23. Noone would get near Wade or Shaq cause of fouls. They were calling fouls on us when noone was even touching the Heat.
We should've overcome that too... But we were playing more than just the Heat.
Stern is a piece of shit.

What?
The Heat couldnt even play Shaq in second half last night because of fouls.
Seriously, that was a supreme choke-job by the Mavs. Shaq was out the WHOLE 3rd quarter almost, and what did the fucking Mavs do? Shot 3's like a bunch of high-schoolers.
The big man is out! TAKE IT TO THE BASKET.
Maybe with a few more years under his belt, Avery Johnson will figure out how to run plays when his team has a decided advantage...

you cant blame it on fouls... the Heat were in huge foul trouble in the 4th quarter, where there top players all had 4 or more fouls....
I remember many times the mavs could have won that game, like that one time when there was less than a minute left and the Mavs could have came back so Dirk passes it do Dampier and HE LOST THE BALL...
and the foul dirk made on dwyane (that everyone said was not a foul), wade missed BOTH free throws making that foul not even matter and ANOTHER chance for the mavs to win... but they gave the ball to terry and he MISSES A WIDE OPEN SHOT...

Yes, you can blame it on fouls.
Specifically, the phantom foul called on Dirk at the end of game 5 that took Wade to the line. Had the series been officiated properly it should have at the very least gone to Game 7.

Wade alone shot 21 freethrows, the Mavs shot 23. There were fouls that shouldn't have been called and there were fouls they completely missed. Ex. The final shot of the game from three point range. Would've tied it up.
Either way they 'officialy' lost. It was a big upset.

Mark Cuban wasn't too happy. He apparently shouted "Fuck your league, it's rigged." to Commissioner Stern (although he said he didn't hear anything) after the Heat won game 5.

Well one reason is that they'd have to share profits with the mouthiest and most active owner in the league. Bad for whoever doesn't like him. How effective is fining a guy when the next day you put millions in his pocket? That's more fuel for his mouth.
Lost revenues for no game 7 doesn't really disprove anything, anyway. There were bad calls, but i'm not saying it was rigged. I do think that there were more than just the talents, abilities and drive of each team that played a decisive role in who officialy won.
There does need to be some kind of rating system for the officials. They should be graded according to missed calls, very good calls, higher profiled games and so forth. The league should be constantly improving it's unbiased role so that close games and series aren't decided by bad calls or anything besides the talents and minds behind a team.

They didn't even do a VIDEO REPLAY of the so-called Dirk foul at the end of game 5 (and quite possibly another foul on Jason Terry at the end of Game 6), an incident that ultimately defined the series. Now forgive me, I come from Hockey Country and when you're not sure on something, you don't trust the flesh to make the call, you look at video replays from every possible angle for as long as it takes until everyone agrees on what happened - then the game proceeds.
The NBA is ran horribly. You can't even criticize or question an official without getting fined for half a million dollars. Instead of having the useless commission randomly select officials for the playoffs, they need to implement strict video review guidelines in both the regular and postseason, and the officials who call the least miscalls during the regular season should be selected to officiate the postseason. Unfortunately there's no such thing as a miscall in the NBA. The only thing that came close in the 2006 playoffs was a jumbobox review in the Western Conference Finals of an air-ball that Dallas threw.
Congratulations to Dwade and the Heat, but the NBA needs to check itself before it wrecks itself.
