Steve Duncan is an urban historian and photographer whose mission is to “peel back the layers of a city to see what’s underneath” – to piece together the complex cities we inhabit. In this fascinating video, we follow Duncan as he explores the underbelly of New York City. Andrew Wonder, using a Canon 5D Mark II and the Canon 24mm f/1.4L lens, documents the adventure.

Really exciting stuff. Definitely worth a half an hour to join this guy on a tour through the unofficial sites of NYC.

fucking wild... I'm way too scared of heights for that last bit. I got the creeps just watching him climb up there.

Supposedly one of my great (great?) uncles died building the GW bridge

reminds me of a documentary film i watched a few years ago called "Dark Days":

i found the doc to be amazing. but it's shot in black and white and really "gritty" (was shot in the 90's with limited equipment).

i'd say it's worth finding and watching. but i've also got a taste in films that some of my friends find absolutely boring :shrug:

the story line is interesting and the characters compel you to keep watching. plus, just seeing the conditions these people live in when juxtaposed with the knowledge that some hundred or so feet above their heads live some of the richest pricks on the planet makes it all the more captivating.
