Couple arrested in illegal-mushroom case
By Aeron Marcott-Plooy
Marshfield News-Herald

Two Marshfield people face multiple drug charges following a police raid of a psilocybin mushroom operation.

Katherine M. Herzog, 24, and Jason C. Gasiorowski, 26, both of 811 E. Harrison St., apartment 108, were arrested by Marshfield police on Sunday.

"I think that there was personal use and also the potential to provide product to people," said Marshfield Police Detective Jackie Albers. She added that the couple was not taken into custody, but both were arrested.

"We knocked on the door, and their little boy told us to come on in," Albers said. Officers presented the search warrant, and the couple was surprised to see the officers but did not resist, Albers said.

Aluminum baking pans containing mushrooms were found, along with growing material, numerous jars with mushroom spores growing inside, marijuana and marijuana pipes, an indoor plastic greenhouse, a butterfly knife, a switchblade knife and drying mushrooms, police said. The couple also had a magazine called "High Times" - a publication geared toward drug users.

"The charges are pending through the Wood County District Attorney's office," Albers said. "He's in a wheelchair, she's disabled, they are caring for an infant and another child, and there are a couple more reasons why they were not taken into custody. But they are still facing the charges."
Albers said that an increase of in-home drug labs typically means the growers feel safer in their homes rather than purchasing the drugs or materials on the street.
Street sales, she said, increase the possibility of arrests, injuries or unfair deals with customers or other dealers.

"People are expanding their horizons," Albers said.
Herzog faces one felony charge of manufacturing psilocybin and misdemeanor charges of marijuana possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and two misdemeanor counts of possessing a switchblade.

Gasiorowski also faces one felony charge of manufacturing psilocybin and a felony charge of marijuana possession, one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia and two misdemeanor counts of possessing a switchblade. He has a prior conviction of marijuana possession.

Albers said she believes the increased use and manufacturing of psilocybin mushrooms and other illegal drugs is cyclical. Police Chief Joe Stroik said the increase in outdoor temperatures is also increasing the drug activity in the area.

"It's not a sharp increase. It's gradual with the weather," Stroik said. "But we do realize an increase in leisure activity, as well as criminal activity."
"There used to be a lot of illegal drug use in the (1970s)," Albers said. "The clothes are coming back, the war protests are back, and the type of drugs they are using is back, like the mushrooms. I think that people are more willing to try growing things and manufacturing things."

WOW!!!

That's amazing that they weren't brought into custody!!! Wisconsin is real tough on drugs!!! So tough in fact that when I went to Madison this summer that the head shops sold T-Shirts that said "Come on Vacation, Leave on Probation".

Nice to see that they have a heart and didn't drag they disabled folks off to jail, straight away.

Could be........thought of this today though.....maybe the older kid of theirs said something to someone at preschool or school...innocently probably....but maybe the wrong person heard him say something....ya know...like 'my mommy and daddy have mushrooms growing."

something like this happened to my buddy's friend.....their little son said something in his health class about his mommy 'smoking funny smelling stuff, not cigarettes'....this in turn got them popped and there son taken from them.....
so the lesson of today is: if you have kids please re-view how you live your life and what you let the little one's see  :smirk:

Damn I was wondering when i'd make the papers. So many ppl are getting busted in this town, Just down the road a couple that runs a day care got busted by the same detective with a lage amount of coke n some weed, both the husband n wife were taken into custody. Few days ealier a dude got busted with a large amount of pot by the damn drug dog.

We only have a 9 month old, the other kid was actually my 5 year old bro that was only here for a few hours that day. I'm pretty sure the lady upstairs is a snitch n she ratted but I'll soon find out.

Child welfare already came by and they arnt gonna do anything since we take great care of our daughter n shes spoiled big time. We did meet this lady once before right after birth since my girls mother is a lunitic n triied to cause problems for us. They can only take her if shes in real danger or not being properly cared for.

This crap haunts me day n night.

Its real sad to see a case of anything drug-related involving people growing/manufacturing for their own personal use. Its even worse to see that they're going after a couple who are growing for personal use and who are disabled. Best of luck to you.
