Drug-laced chocolates found; two arrested
By Kate Garsombke Gannett Wisconsin Newspapers
STEVENS POINT - From the outside, the foil-wrapped cube of chocolate looks harmless.
But anyone who eats one of these chocolates is in for a long, strange trip.
The chocolates contain ground-up hallucinogenic mushrooms, and local law officers are trying to discover the source.
Sheriff's deputies in Wood County found the chocolates after searching homes last week. In Stevens Point, officers arrested two people in November after a search of their home turned up homemade, mushroom-laced chocolates and other drugs.
"Generally when we've encountered mushrooms, it's packaged in its raw form," said Investigator Michael Webster of the Wood County Sheriff's Department. "The danger lies in the fact that someone could consume this unknowingly." When eaten, psilocybin mushrooms distort perception and thought. Users have difficulty distinguishing fantasy from reality and can suffer nausea, dizziness and muscle twitching. People also can experience intense anxiety, panic, mood changes and perceptual distortions similar to LSD.
Webster said the chocolates are in cubes and weigh about an ounce. They are two inches long, an inch high and an inch wide, in a slightly domed shape.
"It looks, it smells just like chocolate," Webster said.
He said investigators think the chocolates could be coming from Madison.
People most likely are mixing mushrooms into the chocolate to offset the bitter taste of the mushrooms and to avoid police detection, Webster said.
Within the past year, the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory in Wausau has found mushroom-laced chocolates in seven different cases from the northern portion of the state.
Stevens Point police are requesting charges against two people who made the chocolates in November, said Sgt. Mike Retzki.
The homemade chocolates look like melted blobs of candy bar, about two inches in diameter. Retzki said each piece of chocolate probably costs from $20 to $30.
"Our concerns are that a little child will see a piece of chocolate and pick it up," he said.

If anyone is willing to pay for these shrooms, they sure as hell are not going to leave them laying around for just any little kid to come up and eat. Before growing my own I bought a chocolate once and it tasted like shrooms and didn't come in contact with anyone else who could mistakenly consume it. If you eat one mistakenly you will know by the taste.

this is ridiculous. no wonder the public supports the drug war.

they were definately not worth $20-30 a piece, 1 of them was barely even a good threshold dose. they were going for $12 down here
Yeah the reason I didn't buy em was because a friend of mine had bought some and said they were worth like $15.

I get them for $5 Canadian. extracted psilocin I'm pretty sure though, not actual shrooms. (and YES that makes a difference to the trip)
I've had mice, and puppy dogs, and cats for shapes, and for flavours I have had, Grand marnier, irish cream, orange, cherry, coconut, pina colada, blueberry, and a whole bunch more!
w3rd to the person making them
