Chess should be added to shroomeries Arcade..no?

If there was only one choice for a game avialable in the arcade, I would probably vote for chess, however, for some reason, it is the only one missing. Chess is the most ananytical, thought enduring, brain tingling game that I know of. People here at the shroomery who obviously explore there psychological bounds I think would certianly enjoy this challenging game. I have only been playin for a year but I must say chess really gets those brain cells movin and intellectually speaking is much more superior to frogger or conect the dots (I like those games but Im just makin a suggestion) For some of us who put out minds through meat grinders, chess I have heard gets that blood flowing that would certainly be mentally beneficial. the capacity of ones skill is limitless and is much more thought provoking and complex than how fast you can move the mouse...

However, I do realize adding a game, (especially one as advaced as chess) might be hard for Anno or whomever else writes the programs so not like it makes a difference with the admins anyways, Imn gonna add a poll just to see if anybody cares about propsing such a game.

yea and if possible should have a true two player mode where one player can actually play another.


by the way if you could do that with curve ball, have both players compete against each other I mean, it would be awesome. Probrobly not feasible tho. Peace

Ya, Im not sure how painstaking it would be---I know AOL and yahoo both exhibit chess but Im sure those guys have alot more recources then the shroomery does. It's probably been considered---It would be nice if a shroomery admin would inform us of how difficult it would be to create such a game. There are eneough people here at the shroomery to almost always have a few open tables proposing games and it would be quite easy to arrange and plan individual 1 on 1's threw the IRC....

Hey,

I like chess too and I also think this would be cool, but it's really not that technologically feasible. Writing a multiplayer game is no small task and none of the admins have any Flash experience. It would certainly be possible but it doesn't seem like the best use of our resources. If any of our members know Flash and want to create the game, we'll provide the server resources to host it. PM me for information on how the arcade scoring system works.

I totally understand and I know it's alot easier said then done. I just think the shroomery has grown into a community that could effeciently operate and run a game like chess. I know very little about this type of stuff so I cant do much on behalf of writing any type of flash programs but I would be willing to offer a small donation if a feature as this was provided. Thanks for anknoledging the possibility----perhaps one day, I can challenge you to a game of shroomery chess. We can even have different hallucinogens represent each piece. :P JK

I don't know squat about writing flash games or the like but the actual "multiplayer" aspect wouldn't be much more of a stretch beyond a single player game. In fact, writing the AI for a single player game would be far more involved than simply making the game available for 2 humans.

Bear in mind that chess can be played through the mail on a small piece of paper since the moves are denoted like "A1:A4".

Ya but I think alot of that programming stuff can be copied from simple free Blitzin prgrams....as far as writing it into the shroomery well, I dont know how hard that would be but the AI Im sure could just be ripped from some simple Chess program....I would want to play chess with other shroomerites though- not computers

is there any way we mabey raise money and purchase a multiplayer chess game made for boards? perhaps theres one out there? im willing to throw down paypal style for that.
