there is but there has to be an involuntary commitment to a mental institution or a conviction for a violent crime or other felony

why not ask the sheriff why he never jailed Loughner

Yeah I think that this should have transpired since the sheriff likely knew he was unstable mentally and had violent tendencies.  He had the opportunity as Loughner was arrested twice.
But also why didn't the teachers, or friends, or parents convince him to see a psychologist?  Or if he was unwilling any of them could have petitioned the state to have him psychologically evaluated (this is a law in Arizona)?

No.  The first sentence describing the Pub says this forum is here to discuss any topic, now I haven't included any conspiracy into the majority of the main portion of the text.  Am I not allowed to say my opinion of the media in a reply to the main original post (mind you it is a very minuscule portion of the body of the subject)?
Are you really saying that ANY discussion within a thread that contains a conspiracy will have the entire thread moved, irregardless of the size of the portion with a conspiracy to the whole of the thread???

This is it exactly.  There will always be mental illness.  The objective is to get those who have an illness the help they need before they hurt themselves or others, and then maintain a normal life with medication and counseling (or other means).

Funny, I've heard a lot of the same rhetoric before.  The war is unconstitutional and illegal, the education system is a conspiracy, all the books are censored, my teacher graded me low and limited my free speech.

Are you trying to make fun of conspiracy theorists because Jared (obviously psychotic and incoherent) brings up issues "you have heard before"?  I wonder then...

When you say you have heard that the wars are unconstitutional was it becasue of the "currency being illegal"?  And also because "the date is wrong"? 

Then you say you have heard the educational system is a conspiracy before?  Again I wonder where you heard that and if it was incoherent babble like Jared is spewing or was it a somewhat reasonable sounding conspiracy theory?

Have you also heard the cafeteria makes illegal transactions too? lol

And have you really heard somebody say that the books are limited by freedom of speech with the point being they are "controlling the grammar"?


If you are seriously trying to compare his nonsense to all conspiracy theories or theorists then you and Jared are the only ones that look silly...

I wondered the same thing,  When i first heard about it flashbacks of all those fake bin laden tapes flashed in my mind.

It's also a bit wierd how at the end she says basically

"and oh yeah, this is jared loughner"

Who says that?

I take that video with a grain of salt, I haven;t empirically confirmed it as authentic yet.

From what the people who knew him have said he was apparently a fairly intelligent person at one time. He enrolled in college when he was 16 and was taking relatively challenging courses.

He says all sorts of stuff on that tape (and stuff I've read that he typed) that makes me think; 'what the..who would say that?' and it seems the answer is a lunatic would, that's who...

And from what I understand this is the tape that the school saw that convinced them of the fact that he is unstable and probably mentally unsound and led to his expulsion (or suspension?).

Well yeah there is the theory that he is faking the psychotic symptoms to get out of jail and go to a mental facility, including his ex-girlfriend...

...also in the video it is confirmed he used shrooms (in addition to MJ and salvia plus I'm sure other drugs), so with the blame game in full swing shrooms (and these other drugs sadly psychedelics in general) are likely to be demonized along with all whatever else the establishment wants to influence or crack down on (gun rights, free speech..ect).

I don't buy the "he was faking it" though, there's just to many people; students, teachers, and ex-friends and others, that say he changed for the worse in the last 6mo to 2 yrs.  I really do think he lost it, and this is the age when schizophrenia develops, and I've seen a few psychotic experts say they think this was his dysfunction...

wernicke's aphasia typically happens b/c of a traumatic brain injury. did he sustain an injury or something prior to all of this? i'd tend to think schizophrenia could be a cause b/c it typically comes on in the 20's and he's clearly disconnected from reality from what i saw of the video.

i am hardly a professional, but i do think the primary cause of this is mental illness. i don't think the subject of obsession matters. charles manson used beatles lyrics to orchestrate mass murders. i've heard the media throw out there that his interests included 9/11 conspiracy theories, the movie 'zeitgeist', and read marx's 'communist manifesto'. i've been exposed to all of those things and have no inclination whatsoever to go on a killing spree. i don't buy into 'zeitgeist' or the 9/11 stuff, but marx is admittedly brilliant.

in any case, i think the dude is just nuts, and the main thing the everyone including the authorities should be looking at is how our gun laws enable people like this to have access to firearms. i'm not a big fan of new laws being passed, but if it disarms guys like this....

With a population this size on the shroomery it is without a doubt that there is some number of schizophrenic people that post here (statistically it would be very improbable that no schizos have posted here).
Additionally people on shrooms or other strong psychedelic can mimic a schizophrenics behavior so that ups the chances of 'crazy' talk around here.

Yeah man, I'm not trying to diagnose him or anything, I was just posting that as an example of how delicate the language centers can be. I think he might have understood that people couldn't wrap their heads around whatever it was he was trying to say, and that his odd pattern of screwy logic was him trying to explain his way of thinking rather than expounding upon any particular subject. Almost like some kind of bizarre truth functional propositional logic.

This kind of thing is really interesting to me because I'm fascinated by what motivates people...you know, all the weird interrelated shit that informs our method of interacting with and logically organizing the world around us.
