Who's feeding the hostages?

off the coast of Somalia there are 27 captured boats imprisoned with  a total of 660 crewmembers.

Somalia is a third world country. so....

660 people spread out between 27 different boats miles off the coast equals alot of not easily accessible mouths to be fed. at least twice a day at that if they don't plan on letting them die in the long run.

Id wager that they can't be bothered. to feed all them would require an established supply route, reliable food sources, reliable transportation and fuel, and a dependable workforce that doesn't only becomes effective and motivated when its drunk on sugarcane booze and jenkem.

i understand that its in their best interest in keeping the hostages alive, hypothetically. (i'm sure the companies involved are more worried about their money and property though) BUT im also realistic and i'm betting that the majority died a while ago.

but the governments that be, if they knew, probably wouldnt be chomping at the bit to get accused of being soft and complacent as half starved uneducated urchins with rusty AK's and a canoe killed off civilians via starvation.

also couldn't we easily take all those ships back with a large, coordinated, multi-nation, elite unite strike force? you know, slip in at night or have i watched too many movies?

some of those ships have been there for years. i doubt they carried more than a months worth of rations to begin with, and im sure the pirates probably ganked it on day 1 (that whole third world, aint got shit, if it isn't nailed down steal it or i might die mentality you know?)

What the fuck? I've been here this long, and I've just been huffing it? No wonder I wasn't getting as high as the rest of you guys. I'll write a trip report tonight or tomorrow. I can't remember when I started fermenting it.

these guys dont look like they can afford any extra slop.

the average person consumes almost 5lbs of food a day.

lets say they are afforded 2 lbs of slop and 4 cups of water a day. this is pretty much the bare minimum to survive any long term capture. however you could survive off less for less time, but as i pointed out some of these people have been there over a year.

thats 4 lbs of supplies, per day, per person.

thats 1.3 TONS EVERY DAY to keep people from dropping dead.

lets not even calculate the amount of food water andgas the workers maintaining this supply route will need.

have you seen their boats? even the simple act of getting that much weight off the resupply ship and up to the captured ships is a daunting task. especially when the governments  and businesses around the world arent exactly throwing money at you like you planned.

all i'm saying is that sure they need the hostages alive to barter, but when that becomes a hassle, keeping the illusion that they are alive is just as easy, and illusions don't eat.

these guys are fishermen, not trained terrorists, soldiers and negotiators. wheres my elite forces?

^^^    With enough water they can keep hostages alive for a very long time with very little food. It takes awhile to starve to death.
