I would agree with your "last frontier" statement but I really don't think ALL drug users care too much about freedom.
Cocaine, Opiates, Amphetamines; these things end up enslaving the body and mind of almost everyone who uses them. And, while the individual may be aware of this, more often than not they don't act on it. Because they'd rather continue getting high, remain comfortable.
To me this says a lot. Most drug users would accept, with open arms, their own enslavement because to resist would require effort and enormous willpower. Something most addicts refuse to believe they have.
Cannabis users/activists, on the other hand, actively participate in politics and attempt to protest overtly tyrannical legislation. A prime example of the irrationality behind the war on drugs.
