Anyone with a mg scale know exactly what a nickel weighs?

Im trying to gauge the accuracy of my new one, and get a feel for whether it needs to be recaliberated or not - can anyone with a decent one tell me?

I got mine for about 30 bucks off amazon, so its pretty much just barely a step above eyeing it out, but I'd really like a starting point for how to measure the accuracy of the scale itself.

The official weight is 5.000, I was wondering if anyone with a high end scale could weigh one and report back what their scale measured.

Im sure if they have it down to 4 figures, thats as official as its going to get. Anything other than that is a flawed/shitty/old nickel. Why would you want to calibrate your scale to 4 figures with something like that?

I'm calibrating it with factory weights, I'm just trying to test its accuracy with a known weight, and I know I'd test .1 scales with a nickel as they'd come up 5.0 grams if it was accurate.

Not sure if there is a better standardized object to test the accuracy of a mg scale - this is my first one.

Depends on the nickel. Older, more worn nickels weigh less than new ones.

The US mint has a web page showing the weights.


Try a dime. it's 2.268g


Keep in mind that these are for modern versions of coins.

Also, most scales are more accurate towards the center of their range.

i prefer dimes over nickles. they take up less space in my coin jar and are worth twice as much. i will only put quarters and dimes in that damn jar. it's even labeled "Slothie's Breast Reduction Fund: Donations Greatly Appreciated." so far i've got $17.90 in it because my dumb ass keeps taking quarters out of it to buy cigarettes.

nickles vary in weight, some by as much as 1/10 gram

i would say that a 38H-I (depending on style of bra) is painfully large and also a drain financially; large-sized bras are not cheap. :frown: especially on a 5'2" 140lb frame, 20lbs of which is probably boobs. it's very difficult to actually weigh them; trust me, i've tried.

I have an ex who had to buy specially made bras. Her shoulders had huge divots in them from the bra straps even though they were ultra wide. Not to mention those bras cost a fortune. Her back-aches were epic and often made her more than a tad cranky.

I doubt many household items are manufactured more accurately than coins, it seems like the best candidate.
