Has anyone ever tried to play a didgeridoo?
    #13579029 -

For years I've loved the sound of a didgeridoo. Recently I decided to order one online so I can learn to play myself. The one I picked comes with an instructional dvd and I was wondering how difficult it is to figure out. Does anyone have any experience? If so, how hard was it?

Playing the didge and getting cool sounds out of it is easy. Circular breathing so you can play continuously without stopping for air is pretty hard, I haven't mastered that yet.

I've never played one but the folks that do some beat-boxing slash horn blowing are pretty cool.

Studying mycology since: August, 2008

A typical monotub grow of a multi-spore rye spawn with some Golden Teachers: inoculated on day one and saw first signs of growth on day 5. On day 17 jars were 15% - 30% colonized so shook em up. On day 25 I mixed the spawn and sub in the monotub and on day 50 harvested the first flush. Just under 4 ounces dry in 1 month 19 days!

One Love!

My parents picked up one when they were in Australia and another friend of mine made one out of PVC. They're fun to play but I've never been able to do the circular breathing. Also, dogs are freaked the fuck out by them.

Today I was watching a video on youtube about circular breathing and it looks complicated. I'm a heavy smoker and I have a feeling it's gonna hold me back. Hopefully learning to play the didge will inspire me to quit the worst habit I have.

You and me both on the smoking thing. How the hell do you afford to smoke living in NYC? Or do you not live in the city?

I knew a guy that made one out of some PVC pipe.

He heated up the pipe and molded it until it sounded how he wanted it to.

I played tuba in middle school and it was very similar because of the large mouth piece.

have you ever played any type of wind instrument?

circular breathing FTW

Every few months I drive two hours to an indian reservation on long island where I buy all natural ciggs for $26 a carton. I stock up and go back when I'm running low. Aside from the price there are better because I like the taste so much more.

WUT! $26 a carton? Where is this place? How is the quality of cigs? That would be worth the drive from Newark compared to paying $8.50 a pack.

I've been playing on for nearly 9 years now.
I usually play them at gatherings, but the last two
I went to I didn't think about bringing it!

I'm Australia so i've seen a fair ammount of didgeridoos, their fun to play around with, you can get some really dark and funky sort of sounds out of them.

I remember on the train once when i was coming home from the city at like 7am after being out all night and i was like half dead on the train. There was a homeless guy with a didgeridoo playing the whole way home, and he was like mixing his sounds into the idle noises the trains made - like using the constant 'tik-tik......tik-tik sound trains make as a metronome and stuff. It was pretty fuckin cool man, but at the same time it was spinning me out because it has a darkish sort of vibe to it.

And if you can successfully circularly breathe you can beat any breathaliser test, which is an unrelated benefit. lol.

Beat a breathalyzer with circular breathing?  How?
