    #10379485 -

Hey peoples... just finished up painting the pvc didgeridoo I made.

Its a pretty easy process and they are fun to play with

Info: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/1872146/fpart/1/vc/1

I am pretty happy with it, gotta touch it up a little and clear coat it but its overall done. DNA and then last minute I decided to fit an eye I drew from alex greys work in the last dna part

was a fun project

Wow, that's fucking amazing!  I think this is going to have to be my next project.  I've been looking into getting into something and this is right up my alley since I already play didg, and it looks so easy.  Nice job, dude.

My friend makes carbon fiber instruments so I wonder if we could create a sick mold and put something together in a sweet collab and sell them.

I made one to practice on until i bought a real one. It is actually harder to play than a real one, but you can get the same effects. I practiced alot on my pvc one, then played one in a shop. The one in the shop played so much easier, and i actually got some people watching me. It was neato.

PVC ones are ok if you have nothing else.

*Oh wow. That link is different than i thought it was. Those look alot nicer than the one i made. I think i have a new project on my hands as well. Ty.

for ~$30 of materials they are def not a bad option

if you already have access to a heat gun thing its only like $10 or something

but yeah im sure there are some very nice true ones to buy... i think my old roommates was a bit on the deep side it prolly was designed for that i guess

Can you coat pvc with some type of epoxy to increase its hardness for better resonance?

Heh, yeah some of the ones made are pretty sweet, you can bend em to some cool designs

I bent mine a lil bit, just slightly like pretty normal, you can tell somewhat in this picture

I mold fiberglass & cf(not as much lately) parts for my car.  Even though cylinder shapes aren't very difficult(did some for brake vents, about to make some for future turbo compressor intake. All the materials to complete a mold(diff ways), and how much it costs to use carbon cloth and resin(other stuff can be had/made cheap). Won't be a very cost efficient product. Unless there's a strong market for pricey didg's *shrug*. If it's anything like the guitar world, it's tough competing with wood.

Yeah, that's a good point.  My friend has been struggling a lot time with his molds and the expense of materials. In general, though, i'm sure it would sound great and have some decent re-sale value.

You could wrap the pvc with 1 layer of carbonfiber and resin, If you were wanting that look. That would be much easier and cheaper than a pure Cf tube.

Right, especially since the mold is already made by just using the pvc.  However, it probably wouldn't be able to conform to any indentations made into the tube, and it would have to be less manipulated in shape and pretty round, right?  Do you think having the cf on the outside would change the quality of the sound?  I was thinking more of an epoxy coat on the inside, but hardness might translate into general hardness either way.

CF is very conforming. Sometimes too conforming. It's very fragile before whatever resin mix you use. Using a vacuum bag technique would make it look even better(easy). Whether 1 layer of both fiber and resin would change sound? This would also depend on the type of pvc. inner and outer diameter, length.  It would certainly look good.  Inside epoxy...*shrug*.

I'd be interested to also see someone conjure a hemp one

These are the things that sound like beads rapidly falling from one end to the other but for a long period of time right?

I didn't find anything on how to reshape the thing. Im assuming that you heat up the part you want to indent or expand on with the heat gun, then you find some shit in your house to use and work it to the heated area of the PVC pipe?

to do the indentations you heat a point on the body and press a bolt into that area with a rounded head to get the nice uniform indentation.

To bend it you heat the general area where you want the bend and just lever that thing the way you want. Its pretty easy and intuitive
