discovering carl sagan

I have a feeling I'm late out the gate with this one. I've been vaguely familiar of his work since childhood when I watched a bit of Cosmos, though Star Trek ultimately won out in the competition for my interest because it has Klingons.

I just picked up a bunch of his books - what's a good one to start with?

Please contribute to the subject - it would, for example, be far more challenging to belittle Carl Sagan's intelligence than my own meager base of knowledge, and I'm sure you would appreciate a challenge.
