A Shepard Tone is a weird thing to hear.

It sounds like an infinitely rising (or falling) tone that never ends. It appears to keep rising (or falling) no matter how long you listen to it.

It's yet one more reason why I rile against anyone who claims they have personally experienced some mystical thing and so they are 100% convinced that it's true. Perception is not reliable.

Hmm, I think I can notice when the tone shifts into a higher pitch and recommences the downward cycle again... dunno if I would have noticed it if I hadn't been explicitly told what it was though.

Yeah, the sound seems to roll like  whimpering, but not annoying.

don't mean to sound arrogant or what have you , since you did mention the properties of the sound before i had a listen , but i could totally tell that the tone isn't rising nor falling.

to me it sounded more like it kept looping/overlapping or something liek that...
a glitch..

Do me a favor , if you're still into experimenting with psychedelics and try to take a large dose of mushrooms in complete darkness and silence.
Much less to unreliably perceive.

I would love to see what a rational person , skeptical to the existence of anything mystical , would conclude after an experience like that.

Map it out for me.
Show me where it is that the delusion steps in.
Take your riling to a completely different level.
After the experience.. take note of what just happened.

F.e At that point.. it felt like there was someone else in the room with me. Then you can try to rationally explain why that happened - Right hemisphere of the brain ..blablabla

I went into psychedelics a complete atheist trying to overcome , debunk and quite frankly SHIT ON everything these druggies were able to conjure up with their cowardly wishful thinking.

My attitude has drastically changed , because i went into the experience WANTING hallucinations in order to examine them , play with them and see just how much  my imagination and psyche can fabricate for me.. but i got something i didn't expect AT ALL.
I got into a mindstate where even if i had hallucinated a big 50 foot shit monster it wouldn't have concerned me.
If an angelic quire started singing to me , i would not notice it.
GOD HIMSELF appearing to me , would have been a distraction.

I abandoned thought all together.
It was just me. Thats it.I am. Its me !
end of story. the realization of realizations...
the only real truth... the only thing i can guarantee without a doubt 100%.
Beneath all the nonsense my mind can conjure up through its continuous journey of perceptions and delusions , i know who i am.

- The Noumenon playing a phenomenal game.

What we often do , is try to elaborate mentally on an experience that cannot be conceptually grasped in the first place. Thus fantasy.. or mysticism ensues as a cause of reflecting back from a state where the mind is in its unreliable perception mode.

These are normal outcomes of a mind trying to fill in that  gap .
I know better than to shit on these people because they , just like many others are trying to 'figure it out'. And we're clumsy , make mistakes and sometimes  we make stuff up just to feel better about not being able to.

To rile against them is to miss this. It's like getting angry at a child knocking something over because it doesn't walk proper yet.

I think you lack experience all together and could maybe intellectually benefit (if nothing else) from delving a bit deeper and investigating what it really is that makes these  people "BELIEVE".

I see where you're going with this thread but i have to ask you - What do YOU think about infinity ?
Is it really nothing more than a concept arising as the result of the mind being tricked ? A defective thesis ???

Why is nature fractal ?
Why cant we EVER measure how long a piece of string is ?

What happens when we find something smaller than quarks ? (even though that hasn't REALLY been found at all)
Even science is clumsy , makes mistakes.. and sometimes.. it just makes up shit so that it all fits together.

Wouldn't this be for a tone that is perceived as increasing in pitch?

Yep.  I distrust anyone who even claims anything close to absolute confidence in their observations, let alone their conclusions (alien space ship et cet) which are exponentially more tenuous.

This thought seems to betray a fundamental error in your thinking about this issue.  You are claiming something mystical or whatnot, and it is not anyone's burden to refute the claim.  Failing to explain what you percieve does nothing to imply mystical hocus pocus is more or less likely.

I'm unsure what your explaining and what it is you believe that is mystical.

How is infinity a thesis at all?  I don't get what your asking for here.  Infinity is a useful concept that like everything else in mathmatics is an attempt to represent aspects of our world.  Not much to say about it beyond that.

What do you mean "nature is fractal"?  I'm unsure of the assertion and so cannot explain it.  As for examples of self-similarity at various scales, I imagine it occurs due to phenomena constant amongst these different scales.  If the same conditions exist at various scales, the same solutions are also present.

Why can't we?  I just measures a piece of floss I cut.  1.0 ft.  That really is how long it is and is a completely accurate measurement of its length- seems to counter your statement.

If you were to zoom in on it , you would see many curves that you didn't see before that add to the length.
The more you zoom in , the more you will find it utterly impossible to measure it with complete accuracy.
