Just bluing?
    #1336453 -

My buddy has a cake in a small terrarium. Several days after he birthed it he had to leave it alone with no fanning for about three days. When he came back he fanned and sprayed.

90% of the cake becafe significantly blued withing a couple of minutes. He figured this was a simple reaction with O2, of which the cakes had been deprived for several days.

3 days later, the cake still has some patches of blue that didn't go away. Two additional cakes have been added to the terrarium and have been sitting right next to the blued cake for three days. No sign of any discoloration on the new cakes.

If it's just blue, am I gold?

Blueing usually stay but sometimes it gets covered with new mycelium and disappear. I wouldn't worry.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll add to this that my friend did a little experiment while inoculating this particular cake. He was using the four hole inoc tek when his syringe ran out. He inoculated at the fourth hole with a different strain.

There is a noticable seem, now covered in thick, overgrown hyphal knots. The only part of the cake still blue is near this seem.

I just found this to be interesting and though I'd share.

Different strains will compete for the same substrate, weakening each other. It would be preferable not to inoculate the 4th hole but it should work anyway.
