Some of the stb teks I've read include shaking of the based solution, I think that's how the particles migrate into the nap.

yea, by my limited understanding shaking creates unwanted emulsions and is therefor counter productive

i removed all the naptha from the base jar that i could, put it in a measuring cup.



then i poured the base solution into a half gallon jar, and added 750ml of distilled water.

there is still a verry tiny bit of naptha in it.

my plan is to let the diluted solution set for a day and then re-add the naptha i took out back into it. see how it turns out

can i substitute a hot water bath with putting it in the oven at a really low temp (80-90degrees)?

that's what i've been doin'

That's a lot of nptha, & the oven thing doesn't sound too safe.

it's less than 150ml of naptha, which is the reccomended for STB tek

the oven is turned off but it's at a default temp of ~80degrees all the time


anyway, here's the resulting product from the first pull



is there a way i can wash this? or is it completely useless?

I have seen this exact thing before and heard it is very frustrating. The only way I know to clean it up is a mini acid base. I'm wondering if it is the bark from a certain supplier..

o also, shaking or rolling made no difference. After a few days this same thing had happened in both jugs.

shaking helps i think. i get basically no emulsion. if i get a spec it can easily be seen and sucked out. i shake the hell out of my jars,

wash it with bestine

like i said, go to michaels or any major art supply store, they will likely have this bestine

and shaking doesnt make a difference. i shook the jars as hard as i could several times, did hot water baths and still got basicly no emulsion. if there was a spec of base solution it's clearly visible and can be suctioned out.

i went from dark yellow deems to this with bestine

If his is anything like the one I saw, a bestine recrystalization still wont clean it very well and resulted in a huge loss of end product.

Clean it man. It may seem like you need to do it now but if there's lye in that it will FUCK YOU UP. Take the proper time and respect it, don't rush into it.

I wouldn't smoke it.. an A/B can be done in a day and its well worth it. At least that way you wont have to worry about inhaling harmful chemicals. If you dont want to do the A/B then you can try washing it but make sure you save EVERYTHING until you are done.

spice, but i thought u disolve it in a small ammount of naptha again and wash that solution and then re-crecip or something. i dunno im not clear on the process. there is definately ways to wash it i'm sure of it.

okay so how do i do a A/B on the powdered stuff? or how could i wash it?

i don't think there's any base solution in it the naptha is getting a reddish/brown tint from i think the finely-powdered bark

read the teks theres steps in it for washing, again im not an expert but theres steps in it that are wash steps.

I'd also recomend going to the nexus and posting your questions there - they are alot more knowledgeable in this area.
